God Bless America!

:agree::agree: with the God Bless America and Happy Birthday America!!!

Our church choir presented I Love America Sat night and 2x Sunday. Looks like total attendance will top 8,000 for the three presentations. LOADS of patriotic music. We saluted the area WWII vets in a special way this year (one is in our choir which sings about 350 members). We saluted Vietnam vets last year.

I also did not serve for multiple reasons from medical to only son. But I tear up to see those that did serve and who gave so much. I heard a story from a father today whose son is in Afghanistan right now. He had a call from his son Sunday morning. He said that he had left his room for some unusual reason of some sort. While gone, his room was obliterated by a mortar. We heard stories how the Greatest Generation made sacrifices like ration stamps and driving 35mph to save gas, all to allow more resources to go to the troops. Are we willing today to make those type sacrifices if they would mean eliminating Al Quida? Not sure.... We had a president (FDR) who not only said to pray for America, he PRAYED for America on radio, live. Any president today willing to do that? Not sure...

Thank you to all who have served and who are now serving.

Freedom isn't being allowed to do anything you want to, its not being told everything to do. We have this opportunity because of those who have sacrificed so much to insure we are free. The American flag doesn't wave from the wind around it. It waves from the last breath of those who gave all so that we are able to live in this great country like we do. I, for one, can not thank our armed services and their families for the sacrifices they give on a daily basis.

Well said!
I LOVE America! This is my country even though I came here when I was 22.
Having traveled quite a bit around the world, I can tell you - THERE IS NO BETTER COUNTRY TO LEAVE IN! No matter what temporary troubles we are having here!
Coming from Russia, I find the above quote is SOOOOO TRUE!

After being here for only 7 years, I went to meet with my parents in Bulgaria.
They went there on vacation just to meet with me (as meeting in Russia was impossible and they could net get visa to USA).
Anyway, when my plain landed back at JFK-New York, the first chance I had - I kissed the ground (thinking to myself THANK GOD I am back).
I was ELATED to be back in the cradle of "the ugly capitalist enemy".

When the customs guys said - "Welcome home" - I almost cried, I swear!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH !!!!!

In many ways America is not what it used to be, and it certainly isn't all it could be. But it is a Great country and I am thankful for every inch.

Happy Birthday USA!

God Bless America! Get out and ride in celebration!
:agree: May God continue to bless us....happy birthday America!!:firstplace:

God Bless America--We must continue the fight to remain free

We should bless America daily. We must also work daily to keep this great nation free. Right now complacency and the sense of entitlement is running this great country into the ground. Nothing is really free whether it is freedom or great opportunity!!!! Be informed and do your part to help change the current trends or sit back and watch this nation fail.

Both sets of my grandparents immigrated to America from a German colony in then Prussia. BECAUSE there was an OPPORTUNITY for them and future generations. They had nothing other than what they could put into 3 little satchels...but they were soooo excited for the OPPORTUNITY. They never asked for anything other than that. They were illiterate, spoke no English and did not even consider that someone should take care of them. Yes, I must work daily to keep this great nation free. I cannot become complacent or assume I am entitled to ANYTHING...I must stay informed, be 100% accountable and responsible for my choices in life....because thre are consequences for the choices. My grandparents instilled in us that we are not victims of anyone or anything...unless we want to be. Thank God America can still be the land of opportunity...only IF we do our part as individuals. Phew now to go SpyderRyde because I have the opportunity....Happy Birthday America and a Happy 4th to all Spyderlovers....

Reinstate the draft, And you'll find out fast. nojoke

I grew up in the era of the draft. Sure, there were some who ran to Canada, etc. They got all the press but it was a small percentage. Most just manned up and did their time. That included 2 of my brothers (my draft # was high and I didn't go).

I think it would have helped if the VN war had been run from the battle field and not from the White House. When people have something to fight for, an achievable goal and a chance to do their job, more will go.

I've been in situations where management ties your hands and feet and then blames you for not getting the job done. I think that is what happened in VN.

Still, your point is well taken. We may have entered the era where sacrifice is always something that is expected from someone else to help you out, not something you're willing to do for others.

Honestly, this is one of the things that makes Spyderlovers so special. Here we have a group that works together for the good of the whole, voluntarily, with a great attitude and many who are willing to sacrifice cheerfully if someone is in need. To me this is just a little piece of what America is really all about.

Happy Birthday America!!

This is also my grandma's birthday. She passed away 3 weeks ago.... :( It's a sad day for me this year, but I'll get through it with my family. Meeting up with them for grilled burgers in about an hour. I'll be blowing up the front yard in her honor later tonight. :2thumbs:

I had a good high school friend that did 3 tours as a Para-trooper. He was pretty crazy before he went and the Army didn't change him much.

Another guy I worked with for years (Fire Captain on the opposite shift) was a gun boat captain running up and down rivers to draw enemy fire to help locate their position. Sounded like the 1st part worked really well, not too sure about the 2nd part.

Both of these guys and others I've known had many things to say and they were not much thrilled with the way America used them in VN.

But all of the guys I knew that came back, regardless of how they felt about what went on over there, came back Americans, proud of their willingness to serve and proud of the people they served with.

I think most of them would go again if the cause was just and the reason was sufficient.

They are a big part of the reason I say 'God Bless America!"

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
Happy Independence Day!!!
I served 4 years active, got out just as VN was beginning, I love this country, hope we can keep it free.

Guess I have a different take than some. I think our country continues to get better every year. We're on a good course towards recovery.

Happy 4th. !!!!

Caught the Red Sox playing today at Fenway- then fireworks with the Boston pops tonight.
