• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Glove Box Insert

The new RT's come with a glove box insert. It is basically a plastic tray wrapped in styrofoam and it is easlily removable. Does anyone have the part number for this item? My dealer called the factory and neither have come up with the P/N. :helpsmilie:

:welcome: I think they show that part in the new catalog which I don't have with me now but will post when I get home .

There are actually several pieces to this heat reduction system. The four foam pieces have been combined into a kit, and there is also a heat shield. You will have to remove the glove box to install everything. The parts are listed in the parts fiche, under "Body Parts - Console), so I can't understand why your dealer couldn't find them. Some dealers have retrofitted the early RTs with these insulating panels under warranty...but if your dealer can't even find them in the parts list, I'm not sure I would want him to take my Spyder apart to install them.

219800172 FOAM KIT (replaces 705004427, 705004428, 705004429, & 705004426) $31.99

705004424 HEAT SHIELD $14.99

Are you saying later 2010 RT's have this installed from the factory? My RTS was built in April 2010 and I do have a removable glove box tray. Is this the same thing?:dontknow:

Yes, if you have a removable foam tray, you have the latest design...as well as the other panels and the baffle, which are inside the bodywork.

are you sure about BRP paying for RTs to have the foam kit and padded liner installed? or just the foam kit and heat shield portion and not the padded liner?

The padded liner is part of the foam kit. It cannot be purchased separately now. Some dealers have installed the kit as a warranty item for the early RTs not so equipped. I couldn't say whether every dealer would do the same...or whether this was a dealer initiative, or something approved by BRP. Your blue RT should already have the foam.

My dealer will not install under warranty, but I ordered the kit anyway. They said it will take less than a hour to install.

Thanks for all of the info Scott. Will the foam kit and heat shield help with the heat leaking out from under the seat?

Supposed to keep (some) heat out of the glove box. Not sure if it helps the heat coming from the front of the seat, or makes it worse. My 2010 RTS did not have the kit.

I had the whole system installed on my RT by my dealer.

The insulation makes heating the glove box take a little longer, but any ride over an hour and the glove box still bakes. There is no mechanism to remove the heat, so eventually it gets to the same equilibrium temperature.

The foam insert is fairly large and eats up usable space in the glove box.

I wound up taking the insert out.

In short, if you have to pay for the upgrade out of pocket, it's probably not worth it.

As always, my free advice comes with a double your money back guarantee.

+1  no idea if the insulation was installed. mine was I think a feb production unit. but it does get hot inside so no storing a handgun in it .... was thinking about buying the padded liner but see it will take up alot of space. I think someone did a felt liner glued in. may do that just for padding.

I bought mine from the display demo that had on the floor (they said "don't tell anyone"), for $35, My friends
spyder came with it and they installed all the heat protect and padding, I said "hey I didn't get that!" , so the
service dept. ordered one and put it in on one of my scheduled service appointments at no
charge. I believe it is keeping stuff like my house keys garage opener/air gauge and pack
of gum much more cool than before. To me it has made a big difference The old way( with no
protection) I had my cell phone state that excessive heat- emergency on the display. Now
not any more
