• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

These look interesting. I've searched and don't see much feedback about them here. Can anyone comment on the following?

1. Looks like the newest versions are easy to put on. Is that true? Any problems with them staying on?

2. Any issues with the battery? I'm very much worried about the heat in Arizona frying those batteries. How long do yours last based on certain amount of use? Have you had any breakage or other hardware issues?

3. What color do you use while riding? Do you use them all the time at night or only in certain circumstances?

4. Have you had any issues with police? Any concerns with legality here? Do you not use red color because of any legal concerns?

5. Lastly, these are pricey. If you had it to do again, would you buy them?

I know now they are a site sponsor. I'm not trying to offend. Just looking for honest feedback from real users, and even gloryder contact. The concept is great, and I like the idea of better "side visibility" at night. But curious about issues noted above.

Thanks all!

I have original set.
1 battery life poor - depending on how often you use them.
2 easy installation
3 use yellow while riding
4 New version has improved battery life I think or self generated
5 would I buy them again, no.

Thanks Larry! Any legal concerns? Have the police or anyone else ever questioned you about their use?

I agree. I have the ones with the remote to change colors. It became a pain in the butt to change batteries. I still have them on the spyder; but, I removed the batteries.

Pam, they are lights that go into your wheel hub. I suggest that if you decide to buy them that you wait to install them until after you have your laser alignment. These have to be removed to do the alignment and you would likely be charged an extra $25 to have them removed and reinstalled by Rolo.

I had them on my RT. Did not even bother to move them to my new bike.

They eat batteries, the batteries are a PIA to change and they get condensation inside and then corode badly...then the batteries don't make good contact.

The self generating ones never came to market.

The lights are not very bright and barely seen at night. I used white light.

I would not buy them again.

I have them and like them. They do run through the batteries though. I have bought several sets over the years and would buy them again. I have upgraded a couple of times & now have custom caps on my RT, so will not upgrade again since the custom caps won't fit the newest housing. The old version were best on the batteries. They only came on when the wheel was spinning and it was dark, so the battery life was much longer, plus it used 3 AA batteries. The newer version with the remote only use 2 AA batteries. That plus the fact they are always in standby mode, waiting for the remote to turn them on/off or change colors/brightness, causes the batteries to go dead much faster. I also sometime forget and leave the light on when I should have turned them off. I may go back to the old circuit boards that have only one color and only come on while going down the road at night. Those would normally last me through the riding season. They have had corrosion issues & have started coating the circuit board with a sealer, but the battery terminals cannot be coated.

I agree

They are cool Looking and they do really use the batteries. I know they were working on a better battery life model. They are easy to install (said the non wrench) and except for the fact that you have to get down on the floor to change the batteries, they are easy to maintain. I have not had any problems with corrosion either. The thing is, I don't Ryde at night that much, and they don't show up at all during the day. So while I was excited to put them on, they don't get used much any more. I did get the ones with the Spyder cut out on them so they still look cool when they are not on!

I had them on my 2008, 2009 RS's and on the 2010 and 2011 RT's.
All were the "original" versions. Meaning, came in one color only. We experimented with blue, pink, and yellow.

Here: Alaska--the land of the midnight sun--a set of batteries would last me the whole season--March through October. I did very little night riding in Sep and Oct since it was pretty cold out after dark. When used, they lit up beautiful and similar to the RT picture posted above.

Ease of install: My first set, I took the wheels off to install. Figured out I could do it without taking the wheels off the second and remaining times. Pop the plastic hub out of the center and work from there. I got where I could install/change batteries out in about 5 minutes per wheel.

Police: I got a thumbs up from a State Trooper and from a member of the local Police Department. I guess neither had any problems with our display.

Would I buy them again. No, because of the very limited use for me. My old ones are adorned on someone else's :spyder2: now.
