Gerbing Heated Jacket

Heated Jacket

Has anyone ran the battery connection for heated jackets? Any advice and instructions is appreciated.

I have hooked up two Spyders for my wife. 2011 and a 2014. Both leads came or come from the battery terminals. I then use the terminals for charging the battery when not in use. Both unites were Gerbing. Hope this helps.:yes:

How did you thread the cable from the battery ? Do side panels need to come off ?? Did you need to buy cable extensions from Gerbing ??
Thanks

If you have a battery tender you can buy a y connector you can connect both jackets to the battery tender connection.:2thumbs:VisitedStatesMap.jpeg

Mark has installed my Gerbings on my 2009 and 2013.....but I believe there is a separate fuse and not directly to battery....he is gone but I'll have him respond

Let's see..!!

the best is direct to the battery with the fused cables provided. Don't have a battery tender so don't know if they are fused. Depending on the route taken you can get wire from hardware (same guage) store to extend the connection. Don't have gerbing but mine came with plenty of cable...

If you install a low profile Powerlet outlet on the left side of the console you have a good plug in location for the heated gear and plugging in a battery tender. Hooking up to the battery will require removing the Frunk, but you can disconnect the negative lead on the battery from inside the Frunk. Now you can pickup +12vdc from the large lug on the alternator and for ground use the 10 mm bolt on the front left corner of the gas tank. Use a fused wire to connect to the alternator lug. The length of wire between the lug and the fuse holder should be as short as possible. You might have to install a new lug.

This above mentioned hook up is for the 2014 RT. The alternator cable is a direct connect to the + lead of the battery.

Thanks very much much for the info, I will give it a try.

Would have to use a #30 amp fuse. #15amp for Jacket and gloves. do nothing but hook it up direct to battery. Comes up through same ho;e as steering column. Also have a male plug to harness with a standard battery tender plug pigtail so I can use the same harness to charge and plug my battery tender to.

I would run two harnesses from the battery for you and the Misses or Mistress. Very easy to do and many different ways to run the harnesses.

Gerbings

I wired my Gerbings thermostat into a 20 amp fuse on my Fuze block, & there also is a fuse holder built into the Gerbing harness. I too used a powerlet plug on the panel to the L. of storage compartment. MarcusB

I had my dealer install a fuse block under the seat. Turns on only when the engine starts. I used two 10 amp circuits for the wife and I. Tom :trike:

The bike is a 2014 RT Limited....any info you can provide on how to thread the cables is appreciated.

Mine is a 2014 RTS. I had to remove all the side Tupperware and run two cables from front battery terminals to the left, sitting on the bike, to the rear area where you fill the gas. One is for my wives jacket and the other for mine and to trickle charge the battery when not in use. I had two cables made up. One was 4 feet long and the other 5 feet. Hope this helps.:bowdown:

Thanks for the info....when I get brave enough to remove the side tupperware I will make the connections.....

Gerbing Jacket

You can do it!

The side panels have two exterior screws at the bottom, which show all the time. The screws are the star bit type, however have a small point in the center, so a regular star bit will not work. Apparently requires a special tool. Is it necessary to remove those screws?? If so, what tool is required ????

Do Not remove them.

This screws hold pins that push into grommets. Once you remove all the screws for the panel just gently pull the panel and it will come out of the grommets. When you reinstall the panel it's a good idea to put some kind of lub on the grommets. This prevents you from pussing the grommets out of it location.

:agree: 100 % I use glass cleaner and spray the grommets before inserting the pegs.

On my 14 I ran two Powerlet connectors. One by the left passenger hand grip and the other in the center of the switch assembly. This way I was able to use the holes that are for the CB connections and did not need to drill new ones.
To do this I did need to remove all the left side Tupperware, but I did not need to remove the frunk.
I purchased the connectors with the 5' of lead wire, bou had to splice in extra wire for the rear connector as it required a longer reach. I tied both together at the battery terminal. I fished the wires through the back of the battery to the terminals.

Thanks very much for the information and for the PM.. I just ordered the Powerlet connectors, should have them by mid-week.. If I have any problems, I will give you a call.
