General Altimax tire question

Biosafena

New member
I have searched and read until I am almost blind, but can't find the answer to my question. I see that many people are using the General Altimax RT43 tire as a replacement for the rear. Does anyone have any experience with the General Altimax HP tire for the rear?? I know it costs a few dollars more, but I like the looks of the tread pattern. Any reason why the RT43 is more well suited for the Spyder than the HP model?? Thanks for your input.

RT43 VS. HP

I recommened this tire here. My GF Deanna has it now and she really likes it.....I have driven Hers and I think it holds the road well and it feels great......The difference is the RT is the newer model of the Altimax line .....Some changes were made to improve an already good tire....It still has the best rating of about 15 tires in this size ...215/60-15...........Hope this helps you out ....Mike .....I know they have a matching tire for the front ( 175/65-15 ) but you can check TIRERACK.COM and see if they have it in 14 inch size.!!!!

I'm running the Altmax HP's on the front of my 2012 in size 185/60/14 they fit and work fine. If I was getting tires right now I would get the same size in an RT-43 because it is rated better all around. I would also run one on the rear in size 215/60/15.

I am using the general RT in the back I like it ,I don't know if you could get the HP for the rear if I could I would use that one I got HP in the front they work awesome

:agree: and the General Altimax RT43 tire that I have on the rear of the spyder, handles great on dry, wet, dirt, gravel, roads.

( mileage on the General Altimax RT43 rear tire is:4,496, and the total mileage on Spyder is 10,320 in hibernation, I replaced the original rear tire Kenda, It had 5,824 miles)

The spyder hugs the corners great, and no problems with the nanny. I am running 26 psi.

The tire rides very smooth. In the future if I need an other rear tire, I would get a General Altimax RT43. Blueknight911( mike suggested this tire because of the ratings it has) Good luck! Deanna

I too have the General Altimax RT-43 in the back and have had no issues with it and seems to handle fine whether dry or wet, have not tried it in the snow but don't plan to. My question is what size fits comfortably in the front without being too tight fitting under the fender to replace the stock tire on my 2014 RT-S. I have looked at Federal Evo, and have thought about the general since I have had good luck with the rear.

I am also thinking of running General Altimax RT 43 on the fronts to replace the stock tires on my 014 RTS-SE6, ( current mileage on my front tires is: 10,320) Deanna

Have the original kendas on mine. Have over 12000 miles on them prob. could get another 1000 but will change in the spring. Haven't decided what to put on.

Anybody else have the dealer complain that getting the 215 60 R15 tire to seat on the stock rim because it is narrower? I suggested tourniquet to pull the tire closer to the rim.

:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.....Friend, the problem is with the Dealer not the TIRE. I've had 2 of these and one, 205/60-15 mounted on the Spyder rim by a car tire installer and they said NO PROBLEMS...........Also I doubt the Dealer actually does tire installs.........Mike :bbq:

They are using the ratchet down band to try to seat it on rim. I am the first "of course" to bring in a car tire to them. Early adopter has to suffer a bit.

Hey Mike. Question from the dealer was why go with 215 60 R15 instead of 225 60R 15? 225 is stock size and goes on rim much easier.

Well, all done and they got the new tire Installed and got steel valve stems from Lamonster installed at the same time. Tire rode smooth and of course hard rains on the way home to test the new tire. The dealer does very good work on everything I've gotten so far just got thrown a curve ball with the car tire. Will still go back to them.

Yes. (No dealer locally, but with 2 different tire shops that did not have a ratchet strap around, nor did I at the time.) It was finally accomplished by a tire shop that has a rapid inflation device that dumps air into the tire almost instantly, thus popping the bead.

I will try to remember this after hopefully 20,000 miles when I have to replace this new tire. Thanks for your input.

So why do you use the 215-60-R15 instead of the stock size 225-60R-15 tire on the rear?
