• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Gatlinburg Hotels... Spyders in the Smokies

Anyone familiar with the Spyders in the Smokies event/location regarding best proximity for hotel accommodations?

It's not clear where vendors, evening activities, etc. are and I'm trying to avoid being too far away. I'm looking at the Clarion.

Thanks.

Several people have mentioned the Red Roof Inn. I believe many are staying there. I have no idea how far it is from things.

Red Roof Inn, definitely. :2thumbs:

From what I remember of last years event, Gatlinburg itself is fairly compact and anyplace you stay there will be reasonably close the events. Plus it is a tourist destination so there are a lot of motels in Gatlinburg. Pigeon Forge can seem pretty far away if the traffic is heavy and the entire area is a tourist trap so traffic can be heavy quite a bit of the time. There weren't any vendor displays set up last year except for Corbin bringing their trailer to the dealership that helped out with the event. If other vendors are coming and they set up at that dealership, I wouldn't worry about trying to get a motel room near there as the dealership was a little far away from the bulk of the rides and dinners.

Both the event motel (can't remember the name, docdoru is staying there) and the Red Roof Inn were great places, no complaints, last year. Try them first then try others that you can find online if those two places are booked.

Thanks BJT... just what I was looking for :2thumbs:

So, as long as Oracle's (expected) acquisition of Sun doesn't fubar my plans, I'm looking forward to meeting a load of you.

Thanks again.

I just Googled "motels in Gatlinburg TN" and this map was one of the results. Just about every one of those little red dots is a motel so as you can see, there are tons of them. The Clarion you mentioned appears to be at the same end of town as the Red Roof Inn.

Google map of motels in Gatlinburg.

If they do things similar to last year, the group ate dinner at that end of town a couple of the nights and the meeting place for the group rides was the park headquarters just a bit farther southwest on 71.
