• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I think that this issue has been addressed sometime before (by Scotty...?), but could not find it.

Yesterday, after doing the canisterectomy to my SE5 I did an inspection in the area to make sure that everything was fine.

I found that the gasoline filter's downstream hose was somewhat loose / slipping apart from the casing.

I remember that I found the same problem a couple of months ago when I extended the evap-can vent hose.

I thought that I had corrected it, but it seems to slowly slip out.

Inspected the hose but could not see that it was stretched or pulling.

What gives...? Anybody else with this problem...?

I didn't address the filter, just the fuel line running close to the engine, unprotected, and very taught. Someone else reported a loose filter hose, though I don't remember who. What you have could become a serious hazard, in my opinion. While the hose will not likely slip off the filter due to the enlarged end on the nipple, a hose that is loose enough to slip on the nipple could easily leak, spraying gas on hot engine and exhaust surfaces.

The best cure for this is to have the dealer replace the hose and Oetiker clamps. I also recommend covering that particular hose with corrugated tubing, like the newer Spyders are. If getting it to a dealer is not possible, I'd remove the loose clamp and install a worm drive clamp for the short run. The Oetiker clamps are better, but they require special pliers to install. The clamps and pliers are available from BRP. Some other shops, including auto dealers, have them, too. As an alternative, it may be possible to just squeeze the clamp tighter with the Oetiker pliers.

Thanks Scotty, I'll change the clamp and will keep an eye on it.

My 2009 SE5 has the corrugated tubing (flexiconduit...?) over the hose, and the hose itself is not really taught.

Could it be the pressure exerted by the gas pump...?

Could be, or could simply be a clamp that was not tightened enough, maybe even the wrong size, by accident. Oetiker clamps come in very small size increments.

You have me a little concerned. My hose looks like yours in that it appears to be cut short; but, it seems tight to the filter stub. My spyder is going in for the 6,000 mile check up. Should this be looked at? Can you actually move your gas line back and forth on the filter stub?

And by the way, have you been to Isla Margarita?
 
If the hose is short of the filter, but tight, it is OK. If it can be moved, the potential is there for a fuel leak.

No, the hose cannot be moved, and no, it does not leak.

In fact it took me some serious pushing / pulling / juggling with 'needle-tip' pliers to slide it back to the filter side.

I checked the lenght of the hose going into the carb-body, and although it was not really slack, it did not appeared taught.

I did my best to re-accomodate it to give it just a little more slack and then pushed it back with needle-nose pliers against the filter. It was very tight on the stub, that is why I could not figure out why this was happening.

I haven't been in Margarita Island since 1983, but it is still a nice place to spend some vacations, especially in 'off-season', otherwise it is way too crowded.

Unluckily, the government recently took over ownership of the Hilton based on very murky (and red) arguments.

If this continues, it will hurt tourism by lack of local and foreign investment.

My 08 looks the same,but it does'nt have the corruagatet tubing.
Been that way since new. [8,700 miles now] seems tight enough????
BUT :yikes::yikes: I think it depends on which person put it togetter at the factory? All Spyders don't come off line the same"".:gaah:
My opinion just by looking at Spyders at diffrent dealers.
 
smelled gas and after inspection that hose was very loose and no gas was visible but when I wiggled the hose gas came out. Replaced with worm drive clamps and all is better now! Glad I found this one in time!
 
Reusable plastic...

In many applications I have seen a type of reusable plastic hose clamps used.

Question 1. Would this type of clamp work correctly with the spyder hoses? I have noted the ones I refer to are always very tight and I've never seen one leak.

Question 2. The plastic corrugated tubing I see at the parts stores has a melting temp of 200F on the package. Does the factory tubing have a higher melting point. I have done some temp measurements on the engine after riding just a short distance and the lowest engine head or block tempature is well over 200F. I use a digital laser for the temp measurements. Usually their measurements are fairly accurate.

Or should we use a DEI or other reflective heat shield tube over the plastic. Due to many years of safety training I sometimes go to the excess with some of these issues.

Please give me some guidance./Ken

The stock Oetiker clamps are JUNK ! Untold numbers of Sea-doo PWC have sunk because of them coming loose and letting water hoses leak or come off. Use a stainless worm drive clamp that can be tightened with just a screwdriver when needed to compensate for hose compression. Just another instance where BRP wants to save a "dime" !!
 
My dealer hates those stock clamps and when he did my 2nd update he used a worm drive clamp on my new vent hose.

He claimed they had a lot of coolant leaks on the Ski-doos because of those clamps and they always replace them with the worm drive style when they can.
