Gas Filters, any good options?

Just Doo Me

Oil filters seem to be a popular topic right now,but has any one come across a better option than the stock for a gas filter?:dontknow:

Just curious whats wrong with the stock fuel filter. :dontknow:
Well for me my closes dealer isn't the handiest to get too where as I have an auto parts dealer close by.By the time I add my time, gas and money to the price BRP charges for entry level filter it just made me curious if anyone had come across a number for a cross referenced alternative.

Look at it this way when going to the dealer, you're going for a ride on your spyder.

This is one instance where a trip to the dealer may be in order. Some have tried to use the worm type hose clamps when installing the gas filter, which will eventually loosen. They usually find out once a gas leak develops. It's best to use the oetiker clamps that are recommended, which requires a special tool.

But, to answer your question, I don't think anyone has mentioned using a different filter.

You dont have to use a worm type hose clamp there are are other fuel injection specific hose clamps that work as well as the oetiker clamps.I hear what your saying about the ride but working 6 days a week its hard to find the time lately, dosen't seem to be enough hours in the day . I did a search but I could not find the thread where I thought someone mentioned a replacement:dontknow:

I never read anything about a bad BRP gas filter. I would not use a plastic or glass gas filter that close to the "Y" pipe connection. That's IMHO.

I'm not a fan of the oetiker clamps.... they were used because they're cheaper to install on an assembly line IMO.

My gas filter came with one worm-clamp and one oetiker... strange.

If you use the correct kind of worm clamp that is made for fuel-line use you should be fine.... just check them every so often. Been using worm clamps on mine for a good 30,000 miles with no problems at all.

I wouldn't use a plastic filter either. No advantage and possible disadvantages. But I'm not at all opposed to using a glass filter. We are not talking about fragile wine glass here. Fuel filter glass is quite thick and very difficult to break even if you were trying.

What I like about the idea is that I can see what is going through my fuel line. Let's say your Spyder starts running badly. Did you get a load of bad gas? Is your filter clogged? Or is it something else?

With the metal fuel filter you have to change it to eliminate the possiblity of it being the issue. But with a glass filter you just look at it. You can also see when it needs to be cleaned. You just change out the small filter element and you're on your way. The filter elements are very small and you could easily carry a spare.

I'm going to give it a try with this shorty, BIKEMASTER 5/16" CHROME motorcycle version.

Are you talking about the OEM Fuel Filter? if so, you're wrong. the 09 RS Shop Manual states that it gets replaced at every 12K service.
