• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. GAS CAP

do a search in the F3 area of this forum and you will find more than 1 thread on this topic. you are not alone, but it's inconsistent (even on individual spyders). I have this issue occasionally, but not always. Sometimes it's as easy as pushing down and turning the key and sometimes I have to practically stand on the seat to get it to close and lock.

I do find that it closes a bit more easily if I let it sit open while I get my receipt and scratch my miles driven onto the receipt (I am fairly OCD about tracking my miles on Fuelly) before bothering to try and shut it.

I HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING THE GAS CAP CLOSED AFTER FUELING UP. ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM

Normally the problem is getting the cap off. I do not recall anyone having trouble installing.

If it is still under warranty get the dealer to fix it.

Edit: Ooops did not see it was an F3.

Try this type....Stant model #41003, you put it on and never have to un-screw it.....You put the gas nozzle thru the top of the cap which has a spring loaded door, it's EPA & DOT certified .....E-bay item #310631270071 ....Mike..................PS. I finally received mine it was a B*itch to get on ,even with the tool they give you.......This place is a good source for the PermaCap ( which is way better ) $9.25 + shipping @ Breeze Automotive ( google it ) look under the gas tank section for it

I couldn't for the life of me get it closed the first time I opened it. I figured out that you need to put a lot of pressure. use both thumbs to push down on the cap and once you hear it click in place then turn the key and remove it. don't push down on the key and expect to turn it.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

This is the F3 forum -- there's no separate gas cap.
Mea Culpa .. Mea Culpa #1. I only look at " What's New "..........#2. He doesn't provide any info about His Spyder, not even on His Bio page.............#3. I try to spread Knowledge everywhere I can :yes:......Mike :bbq:

Me too!

Yep, I have this problem, too and thought I just needed to get used to the gas door (as compared to my RT). Most times I have to really push to get it to latch and allow the key to turn. One time it clicked closed right away. Always afraid I'm going to bend my key.

I can go so much further on a tank of gas now (compared to the 998 engine) that I've only filled the thing up about 5 times so far.

Have that problem right now. :banghead:

Was coming back from Spyders on the Bayou, opened the gas tank, filled up, went to close the cap and the key would not turn. Different people tried with no luck. The lock was frozen with the bottom wedge jambed out so I couldn't close it.

We took the bottom half of the gas cap apart and took out the wedge so I'd have the cap somewhat down. Thank goodness is was cold with a stiff cross wind. Only got a wiff of gas now and then on the ride home.

Our dealership is now talking with BRP about what to do. Glad this is under warrenty...

The cap is a pain to close. I noticed the T was easier at first but as we put the miles on it got just as bad as the S. I'm not sure what the fix is but there needs to be one for sure. :banghead:

Fuel Cap

My fuel cap is the same too. I get embarrassed when other people watch on at fuel station watching me trying to close fuel cap. I have mentioned this problem to my dealer and they said they will look at it when I come in for warranty campaign chassis reinforcement.

I have found that closing the F3 fuel cap is a two handed maneuver. Once done fueling, I flip the cap back over and then turn the key to the full open position so it drops almost flush with the tank cover. Put a thumb on either side of the key, to the rear of the cap, and press to click.

I remember the fuel cap recall on my old RS. I like the tighter seal of the F3.

My gas cap is also a pain to close... sometimes. Seems like it comes and goes on my F3-S :spyder2: . One time, no problem. Closes with almost no effort. The next time, feels like I am almost lifting myself off the seat I have so much pressure pressing down.

I have to close the gas cap for my wife on her F3. It is just too hard for her to close. Must be because the rubber gasket is too stiff. I think it need a thinner one, smaller diameter gasket, or a softer compound for the rubber gasket.

As has been stated there is no need to try and turn the key until it has clicked closed. Mine is a pain too but I figured out messing with the key didn't help.

:agree: This is what works for me. You have to lean on it with one hand and turn the key with the other, while pressing straight down on the key. It definitely needs to be addressed by BRP.

*NOTE: I should say that this is what works for me 'now'. That will probably change now that I said it works.

I sort of have heard some folks say, that this gets worse over time...
Could a solution be as simple as a little bit of carefully applied lubricant? :dontknow:

When the key wouldn't turn, putting some WD40 in the lock was suggested. That didn't happen.

Be careful what you put in a lock. Some lubes can gum up the mechanism.
