• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Gas Cap and Mileage

I got a new gas cap in the mail. :coffee:

Hmmmm ... never had a problem with the old cap, that I was aware of at least --- no gas smell, etc. Was warned by the dealer when we bought the 2012 RT Limited (Pearl) not to overfill the tank as it would just end up in the vapor canister. Therefore we have a good canister and now have a gas cap that is supposed to seal better. :D:D

What I seem to notice, though, is an IMPROVEMENT in mileage! Not exactly sure how much as we don't have a meter on our tanks at the ranch, so do not know exactly how much gas I've put in (my guess is probably 3 to 5 MPG more). But, what I do know is that the "low fuel" light no longer comes on when we do our average ryde on a PGR mission of between 110 and 120 miles.

Does this make any sense at all? Was the old cap really not sealing properly (since it is a sealed system) but not bad enough to cause fumes? Or is it more related to the fact that Pearl now has a shade over 2100 miles on her? :hun::dontknow:

Ideas on the above appreciated .... Ann

Try filling the tank with a metered amount ,
Then you'll know for sure, Guessing is for Government work.:joke:

So if you go to your dealer and purchase a cap; how much do they cost? :dontknow:
My gas cap broke less than a month after I bought my Spyder. I was at the Dragon, away from home.
I just bought one at the Wal Mart in Gatlinburg and it was fine. It's still in good shape but I replaced it w ith the one that was mailed to me by BRP.

Better Mileage With New Gas Cap?

*** UPDATE *** I have real proof that my mileage is improved after installing the new cap -- adding a metered amount of gas the last few tanks and I am now averaging 33.5 MPG -- was lucky to get 30 MPG prior to new gas cap. Soooo .... again, is the increase in mileage due to a better fitting cap? Or does it make more sense that Miss Pearl has more miles? :hun: :dontknow:

Thanks for any ideas on this one ... mind you, I'm NOT complaining, just curious! Ann

more miles improves fuel ecomony. but new cap improving it i dont think so..:roflblack: you can't pull the wool over another texan..

Hey ... wasn't trying to pull the wool over another Texan! This was an honest question :D and I've now noticed another "item" has showed up since the new cap was installed -- the famous "bouncing fuel gauge" (as in the analog that comes with the RT, not the digital). Mine had always been rock solid before the new cap and now, once the needle passes the top bar, fluctuates for no apparent reason (ie. no curve or hill, pretty flat pavement and it still bounces up and down). To me, this seems to indicate that the new cap has changed "something" in the entire fuel delivery system and I'm really wondering if that something is contributing to the improved mileage (in addition to the number of overall miles that Miss Pearl now has). But, I just don't know! :dontknow:

Well this must mean that, since my original 2010 fuel guage bounces all over the place, that when I put on my new gas cap, it'll be rock solid, right? ;)

:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: SilverSurfer ... thanks, I needed that! Hope you are right, that your bouncing gauge will turn steady!:D:D:D:D
