Good evening. A while back I purchased a gas cap with the little door in it so you don't have to remove it to fuel up and the first time I used it the nozzle got caught in the hole and I had a hard time getting it to come out so I went back to the oem cap. Well this week I put it on my Chevy Trax and the next day my check engine light came on, I guess because the system works on a vacuum and it sensed something was wrong. When I removed it and put the oem cap back on the check engine light went off. Anyone else have this happen on their Spyder or car? Thanks, Mike

Gas caps are not generic. Use the correct one in the correct place.

Got the idea here and used the on suggested

I know on my Ford, the fill connection had that design built in. There was no gas cap, the gas nozzle just goes right into a hole fitted with that type of valve.

The upshot is, there isn't anything inherently wrong with that design.
You most likely got a faulty cap.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

If for some reason the cap doesn't seal on the newer cars and trucks then you will get the check engine light. Pretty much an airtight system, another perk of the tightening emissions regulations. I was in the garage one afternoon and my truck that hadn't been driven for two days starts humming to me. Turns out it does a fuel system pressure self test on it's own from time to time. It was interesting to say the least. The little door on your new cap apparently doesn't satisfy the sealing requirement of the Chevy.

maybe when the gas nozzle was stuck in it and I had to force it out it may have damaged the cap
