There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Gas Cap

I am having aa real issue with the gas cap on my 2016 F3-T It opens easily but it is almost impossible to close! I turn the key and push the filler cap down, but it is almost impossible to push it hard enough to get it to completely close. I have had a number of friends try and even the big guys can't get it pushed in far enough to latch. I have been experimenting with tightening / loosing the various screws but nothing seems to work. Suggestions please.
Thanks,
ShadyGrady

Hi Shady I had a few times where the gas cap caused issues closing on my 2016 F3 L. What I do now is press both sides of the front portion simultaneously and it seems to work just fine no more issues. Also be sure to return the key to the unlock position before trying to close.

If the problem is as difficult as you describe, it appears to me the solution is a two word instruction to the dealer under warranty, "fix it."

I posted a similar thread on the same issue. I have a disability and cannot press down on both sides like they designed it for. Just a really stupid design to have to leave the key in and also the key flap up. There's nowhere left to push if ur not super strong with ur hands. Tried all the lube the gaskets and latch ideas. Didnt really help.
I actually now carry a spare motorcycle throttle tube with the rubber grip still on it and just grab that and press down on the cap. Closes better now. Just an easier way for me to get more pressure on the cap.
Again - stupid design.

It's pretty standard design for 2-wheelers...just saying.

Not really. Ive owned dozens of motorcyles over the years if not more. Most you can remove the key from the cap in order to close it, and on the ones that you cant, the small flap usually doesnt block the area that you need to press on to close it. It usually slides sideways. They usually leave an actual area to push down on without having to do a balancing act around the key AND the keyhole flap. Def not the standard design that ive ever had lol. Maybe just my experience. I do know that there are multiple threads on this exact issue. Still think its stupid :bdh:

THANKS!

Thank everyone! Lube was the key. I used Vasoline Petroleum Jelly on the rubber gasket and it works OK now. It still takes significant pressure to close the cap - but it will close.
My dealer says it is the #1 complaint he gets on F3's. BRP uses that thick, stiff gasket to assure that it will not leak. They succeeded - but what a PITA design.
Once again, thank you for your quick responses.

I would stay away from petroleum products on gaskets.

You need to lubricate the slide latch mechanism. Teflon spray lube works well and lasts. We can easily close our gas caps with one hand now.

Same problem...

I had the same problem with my F3-S the first few times I fueled up. After a couple months it has gotten easier. I will try lubing the components and see if that helps.

After filling the tank, I use whatever fuel is left in the nozzle to lubricate the gasket. Never had a problem closing the gas cap afterwards.
