• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

GAS CAP old vs new

ThreeFeet

New member
Got the new gas cap( don't know why:hun:) put it on the bike and went ryding. Stop at signs and lights and smell gas!!!! :yikes: Never had that problem with old gas cap!! So if i put back the old gas cap what's it going to do to the motor or bike that's so bad that we have to put in a new cap???:dontknow:

This was a safety campaign by BRP due to issues with fires on some Spyders. If you had a fire (heaven forbid) and you didn't have the new cap installed then BRP cannot be held liable. The new cap requires extra force to lock. You need to turn it at least three clicks. Several of us have the new cap and still have the gas smell.

Well..!!

Had the same happen to me. You will find in time this clears up. One trick learned here is fill the tank slowly and don't over fill. Give it some time...:dontknow:

New cap here and the smell of fuel is no different than it was with the old cap. Unless it's too windy for the vapors to be noticeable they're still present, and the hotter it gets the worse it will get. Just a fact of life on the spyder. Not a real comfortable feeling for sure. I mean wondering 'what if'?

This is the thing I'm afraid off. If we give it a time will it fix itself, what if during this time it cause the fire?:yikes:

What happen to those famous words " If ain't broke don't fix it"nojoke

If you have the Fuel smell and you KNOW you have topped it off to much and tooo many times it might be worth the trouble to install a New fuel cannister thingy and Be careful in the future when filling it?

If this isn,t the cause of the smell I don,t know what to say!:dontknow:

New cap, purge valve, and canister, plus never over fill. Like I said. It is what it is.

These new bigger caps do nothing but scrap my knuckles on the top panel taking it off and on at the pump. IMO there was never a gas cap problem/issue at all.

IMO: Use the new gas cap per the safety recall notice. I have not had a chance to ride yet with my new gas caps.

Think about it this way...
YOu decide to run the old cap...
And have a fire! :yikes:
They see that old cap in place and you're cooked as well!

You run the new cap, and have a fire anyway...
It's their nickel; baby! :2thumbs:
