Garmin Zumo 660

I'm hoping someone could help me out with this problem. I traded in my 2011 RTS for brand-new 2014 limited. The dealership took my XM radio and my CB out of my old one and installed it into the 2014. What a big difference from 2011 to the new 2014. My 2011 had a Garmin 660 GPS on it, and it worked fine. When it came to making a left or right turn it would lower my radio volume and the Garman would come through the bike speakers. The 2014 came with a brand-new Garman 660. The problem I'm having right now is that the directions or the voice from the Garman is not coming through the bike speakers! I brought it back to the dealer and they're not sure why it's happening. I asked them when they put my other XM radio and CB could they have disconnected a wire going to my speakers from the Garman set up, they said no because it's a factory installed for the Garman. I went through all the settings in the bike trying to find out where, if at all, there was a setting for the GPS to the bike speakers. I could not find anything in the bike settings whatsoever. Has anybody else ever had this problem, and how do I fix it? Thanks for the help.

Check your volume settings on the Garmin and make sure the mute box is not checked. Next, while off the cradle, play something through the GPS speaker to verify that sound is emanating from the 660. (I used the mp3 player function.) Assuming all of this works, it boils down to the cradle or the harness. Here is where I get on the 'faulty cradle' bandwagon. Garmin cradles can be faulty - a fact I know from experience. So next I would borrow someone else's 660 or 665 to place in your cradle to see if it will work through your speakers. I've got some ideas to troubleshoot the cradle/harness, but it will be a pain.

I'm sort of surprised your dealer isn't troubleshooting and resolving the issue . . . you do have a warranty, and this would fall under it!

I had that problem with my 2013. Turned out that the connector from the GPS to the audio system (located on the right side of the 13 RT) had gotten unplugged.

Yes, they are looking in to it, but I was hoping I could speed it up by asking someone.
Thanks.

I have a some what related problem. Traded 2013 for 2014. Tried to use the 665 instead of the 660. Everything works fine except the XM on the 665. I think it is trying to default to the non-installed BRP XM. XM40 antennar is installed. Will try to open it up next week and disconnect from Entertainment harness to see if it will work then. I only use the Bluetooth from the 665 for music and nav. I do not use the speakers.

Any ideas??

The GPS is not connected to the Entertainment Harness it is connected to the main radio harness. That input to the radio has special status and overrides all other inputs, even the mute function. It is also only mono (discards 1 channel) so music in this input will not be very good. If you want quality stereo sound from the your XM on the gps it needs to be connected a different way.

I get good quality sound (stereo) through my Sena Bluetooth headset using the 665 and internal MP3. I am not getting the XM to work on the 665 with the XM40 antennae connected. Will try disconnecting it from main radio harness and see if the 665 XM will work. I do not want anything from the 665 to go into the speakers anyway. I want all 665 XM, NAV, Traffic and Weather to Bluetooth directly to the Sena headsts. This is how we had it set up on the 2013 ST-S. All worked fine but it was not factory installed.

Some thing now is blocking the XM function of the 665. MP3 and Nav are now coming through speakers and I am guessing it is trying to default to a BRP XM which is not and needs not to be installed.

Anyone out there using a 665 on a 2014 RT-Limited?? Let me know, I would sure appreciate it.

Jack

I just traded a 2013 LTD for a 2014 RT-S. The dealer was to transfer my XM module. Yesterday they called and told me the book was incorrect, the XM can't be transferred, and BRP verified that the 2014 needs an entirely new harness for anything to even function, such as the GPS or a CB. This part is over $900!

They were to transfer my 660 GPS from my old bike by installing a new mount. I had an extra due to my 2012 being lost in Hurricane Sandy with the GPS safe at home. Now they say the GPS won't work at all without the harness.

Is is their determination correct? I tried to save a few dollars with a "S" model. Bad idea.

I am not a tech. Here is my "possible problem". I traded my 2011 RT-S with XM and CB for a 2014 RT-Ltd. I requested the dealer transfer my XM and CB to Mr. Cognec. The tech (very knowledgable) said and showed me a tech bulletin that I will require a new wiring harness for them to work....I said okay but did not ask the price...as you know, I paid dearly for the XM/CB and figured another $200 or so. Anyway, the harness is on order and I will proceed with the install. I am disappointed that I need a new harness. All parts should be in this week and will report progress.

I also ordered the comfort seat with backrest. I am told the seat is two inches longer....I hope it is...I ride solo so passenger space is a non issue...my legs and butt is my major issue.

My comfort seat is two inches longer and the difference in my leg position with it is very noticeable -- and comfortable for me at 6'4" or so. My son has ridden it a short distance and remarked Friday on a 300 miler in the NC foothills that he wished he could get a seat as comfortable as mine for his Kawasaki Concourse.

Unfortunately; it has been reported here in other threads, that 2014's setup was different... Your dealer is correct.
Give them the old pieces, and tell them to HEAVILY discount the cost of the proper ones; it is their mistake...

Thanks, this is good news as I am 6'4" too and need the extra room for long legs.

The service mgr. told me this and showed me the BRP tech report with the different part numbers for the '14. They are working with me on the harness, comfort seat, foot pegs (from Lamonster) and 600 mile checkup. Known these guys for years and they tell it up front....no BS...Thanks, Bob, but no dealer problems here....which makes life a little easier.

Sorry, I misunderstood you in my first reply.

I don't think your theory is correct. It looks like a problem with the GPS and has nothing to do with the Spyder.

I think you should start another thread since since your problem has very little to do with the OP problem.

There have been several postings about a different harness needed. I was under the impression that it was a different Entertainment Harness to get the CB and XM to work correctly. Now you are telling me the GPS will not work either. Well that does not make sense because it does not plug into the entertainment harness. A better explanation is required for me to understand. If someone could post the BRP TSB so I could read it for myself that would be great.

By the way I think you should start a new thread for your problem since it is not the same as the OP's.
