• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Garmin not recharging when on bike?

Hoping to get a solution to a minor issue with my factory installed Garmin 660 on my 2012 RT LTD. The GPS activates when the bike is started, but doesn't charge when operating the vehicle. This began about a month or so ago after updating for the first time to the 5.0 firmware. Before that update the GPS worked as one would expect it to. Additionally, my PC/laptop can not identify the GPS when connected with the USB cable and looking for additional updates. I use the same USB cable and connect it to my home Bose entertainment system to recharge the device. My bike only has 3500 + miles on it and I put 2100 miles on it since my purchase/registering in May of 2014. I've reviewed those treads posted here, but it appears that this is only happening to me. Some of you have suggested to contact Garmin's C/Service for other issues SpyderRyder's been having with their GPS and I will do the same.
Any recommendations?

Could be the battery or mount connections, sometimes you have to clean them with an eraser. Or it could be the battery is toast.

Charging could be the in-line fuse on the GPS cable. Also, firmware update 5.10 has been out for awhile. Call Garmin and they can walk you thru updating the firmware using Garmin WebUpdater.

Take a close look at the GPS mount on your :spyder2:. Make sure that all of the gold pins are extended, and that none are depressed. I had the same charging problem, as well as intermittent failures of the GPS & had the GPS wiring harness replaced under warranty. Could maybe solve your problem...

Your symptoms confuse me. When the GPS senses power it then turns itself on. That is what happens when you turn on the key. The GPS is then powered by the Spyder and the battery charges. If there was no power the GPS will not turn on with the key. How do you know the battery is not charging? Low battery warnings are more likely a bad battery issue not a charging issue.

Try a new usb cable to hook up to your computer. Usb cables have 4 wires, 2 for power and 2 for data. So even if a data wire is bad it could still power and charge your gps, it just can't talk to the computer.

Thanks for the advice!

All of your advice are sincerely accepted and appreciated. I called Garmins support to find out that my device had some other issues. The tech talked me through all of the trouble shooting tips and tricks with no success. The tech even instructed me to install Garmins USB Updater. Again, no success. The tech e-mailed a Return Merchandise Authorization number to replace my device at the cost of only shipping the defective GPS. Will update when I receive the replacement.
Thanks to all of your for your support.
