Garmin 660 ?

I have a 2015 RTS and recently purchased a New but second hand Garmin 660 form a member here. My question is the 660 will not charge using the usb wire from either a 120V wall outlet or the usb power port on my Spyder. It will power up using the cigarette charger in my car. Do I need to change something to get it to work with the usb wire or am I going to have to install the 660 harness to get it to work?

Appreciate any help I can get.
thanks

randy

My understanding is the 2015's have the 590 and all others have the 660. They both have different wiring harnesses and they're not interchangeable. You may very well have to get the 660 harness.

If I'm wrong, someone will let you/me know.

I have to ask. Are you plugging the usb cable into usb port under the battery door or are you mistaking the plug for the traffic antenna on the car mount as a usb port?

garmin 660

I am trying to use the usb outlet that the dealer added where the parking brake and fog light switches are located. I don't think I have a USB outlet in the frunk under the battery door. I do have the 2 wires behind the battery door where I could add another power outlet if need be. I have the 660 mounted on the bar mount attached with the 2 screws on top of the dash. I don't understand why the gps will not power up with the usb cable but will when using the cigarette power cord in my car. I don't have a power outlet on the spyder that is close enough to use other than the usb outlet. I am trying to avoid removing plastic to run another power outlet for the gps. I do have the 660 harness that I can use if I have to run another wire but I was trying to use toe existing power outlet.
thanks

I am not sure what you are trying to do. The only usb plug on the Garmin Zumo 660 is under the battery door. You can't drive around with the battery door off. The battery will fall out. Also it is not waterproof like that. In use it has to mount to either the motorcycle mount that is connected to 12V on the Spyder or the car mount plug in the 12V socket of the car. I have no idea how you plan to connect to a USB power port?:dontknow:

Billy, sorry to be confusing. I am talking about inserting the GPS end of a USB cable into the back of the GPS cradle mount. This is the same as inserting the cigarette outlet cord or a cord that has a USB on the other end. It does have the same outlet hole under the battery of the GPS but there is also the same hole on the back of my cradle and another wider hole on the side of the cradle to insert a cable but I am not sure what kind of cable hooks there.
I just don't understand why the unit will not power up unless I am using the cigarette outlet style power cord.
thanks

OK I think I understand now.

There are 2 cradle mounts. One for the car and one for the motorcycle. Did you get the mount for the motorcycle? If you did not, I hope you did not pay too much. The car mount cradle on the back has plug that looks like a usb socket. It is NOT a usb socket. There is a warning about this in the instructions. It is for plugging in an optional traffic antenna for your car. You cannot power your gps with it. You need to get the motorcycle cradle and hard wire it to the Spyder. If you have the radio the wires are there to connect the power and audio to.

Here is a picture of the car cradle mount. The socket is not for plugging in a power plug.

Billy, Thank you so much, this helps and tells me exactly what I need to do. I do have both mounts and will be hooking up the Can Am spyder harness soon.
