Garmin 660 during the "Dark Spell"...

Okay; what do we need to do (if anything), with these GPS units?
Will they happily sit for three or four Months; or should I make plans to try and give it a bit of a re-charge every once in a while? :dontknow:

I charge mine 24 hours before I ride some where new.
other then that it just goes dead after a few months.

so long as the bike is on a battery tender I see no reason why the garmin won't stay fully charged, but of course I have never gone a whole week without riding so its pure speculation on my part.

Pretty sure the GPS isn't powered by the bike without the key being on.

It comes with a car mount and last year I used it all winter in the car. It is better than the gps I normally have in the car. The gps I have in the car for the summer I just put it in the glove box all winter and it works when I get it out again. But it certainly would not hurt to charge it up once month.

The 660 does not charge on the motorcycle mount unless the key is turned on.

:agree: The Garmin works in the car really well. Just have to reprogram it for a car, and again when you hook it up to your :ani29:. It has only steered me wrong by one block one time, & I could see ahead where I needed to turn. I'm glad to have it.

Use it in your car occasionally over the winter if you want. It might help to keep maps up to date. Otherwise, turn it off & then in the spring, charge it up by USB on your computer 2 days before you go out for that first spring ride!

Can't ride but can use the Garmin

Use it during the winter. Use the windshield mount and charge the battery, then use it without power and run it down or all the way to dead. This will help keep the battery
from developing "memory" and is good for it. Bring it in and do the updates that you can. Consider putting the safety camera database in it and driving with it. All it takes is a USB to mini USB cable and any decent computer. Good luck and thanks for your thousands of posts as I get a lot of delight out of them.
