• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just wanted to say hello to all from Texas. I currently looking at a 2012 spyder RT-LTD from a power sports dealer with 6000 miles- great looking bike and serviced. I have a few questions on what I should be looking for other than cosmetics.
Low mileage possible issues someone passing on?
Should I wait and buy up to get the new motor?
any and all input welcome- good or bad

:welcome:
If you can find an RT with the 1330 triple in your price-range (2014 and later...): that's the bike to buy! :2thumbs:

:welcome:
I agree with Bob. Most of us who had the pre-2014 RTs prefer the larger engine models. But tell us more about your riding experience, etc.

I agree completely with Bob. I know pre-14 owners won't appreciate this comment ...so I apologize in advance (it's kinda like insulting a mans wife) ...but BRP improved just about everything starting in 14. The 2014's and later models are far superior in just about every way.

Perhaps a bit of an explanation is in order... :D
When the RTs came out in 2010: folks complained that they didn't like:
the lack of low-end torque,
the inaccurate fuel gauge,
excessive heat on the rider's right foot,
the high rpm levels that existed at normal cruising speeds
...and a couple of others...

BRP was listening...
In 2014: they brought out the improved RT, and they had addressed virtually EVERY complaint that we had been throwing at them.

I would like to agree with my colleagues above, however based on the specific Byke that you are asking about, I assume that it is in your budget range.

if that is the case then go for it, the 990 series motor is a reputable powertrain that will provide you with many miles of pure wind therapy. This is the motor that Can-Am used forslmost 10 years on alll models. Read the new Ryders instructions on this site, keep the RPM's up and you will really love it.

the reason that they suggest the newer models is the 1330 series motor give about 30% more power, about 50% decrease in scheduled maintenance and 30% increase in MPG. Also with the 990 you will burn about one quart of oil between changes and the 1330 none.

personally, I too would like to move up to the 1330 but it is not in my budget now. So I am a really happy camper to still Ryde this high revving 990 power plant that does all that I want to do.

if you want to buy one be sure that a reputable dealer checks it out for any issues or updates needed before you Ryde it much. You wil really like it and keep on this website, there is a lot to learn and share.

2012

From what i hear the 1330 engine is the one to get, but just like the previous poster said if it is not in budget get the 990. The 2012 model years were the best for that engine, imo. I've had my 2012 for a while and it has been trouble free. No complaints at all. :ohyea::ohyea::ohyea:

:agree: They're still GREAT bikes.

After all: weren't they the ones that we fell in love with; in the first place? :D

The 2012 had the reputation of being the best of the RT models with the two cylinder engine. IMO--it still is. The 2013's had some heat issues--now corrected.

Given a choice, I prefer the 2014 and up three cylinder engine. I own both a 2011 and a 2014-- so get to pick and choose my ride depending on my mood.

Good deals are to be found on pre-2014's. Do your due diligence, get a record of repairs and make your decision from that. Low, low mileage and make sure you change out the oil. Tires over three years old should also be changed out.

Thanks to all

I have the 2012 RT LTD and love it! As said above the new motor improved the Spyder RT, but as it is running great, and other life issues are more pressing, I will keep it for the time being. Depends on the money you have and what you really want. Good luck!:thumbup:

You are in the ballpark. Offer $12K and see what happens.

That didn't take too long. Welcome to the best Spyder forum there is. Read the Do's and Do Nots which will answer most of your questions and ride the :cus: out of your new toy.
