There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Fuel quantity remaining

gkamer

Sadly passed away, December '23.
My Low Fuel warning comes on when I get down to around 25-30 miles to empty. Anyone have an idea on how much actual fuel is in the tank? One gallon, one and a half gallons....

I understand the miles to empty will fluctuate depending on your speed, the faster the speed, the more fuel you use, the less miles to empty.....

When I refuel, I usually insert the pump nozzle all the way, hold it manually at a slow speed to avoid a fuel eruption, and call it good the first time the nozzle kicks off. But I've always wondered how much actual fuel was left in the tank when the warning light comes on.

It depends on the year and model. For mine (2019 F3-S) the fuel capacity is 7.133 gal. The fuel capacity is listed in the specs in the Owners Manuals. Some of the earlier models had 6.9 gallons.

Mine has about 1.5 gallons left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on. I don't know how much of that is usable. I have never run it more than about 25 miles past when the low fuel light comes on. I don't plan to try to find out how much is usable either.

After the pump shuts off on filling my 2014 RTL I am ALWAYS able to get 3/4 to 1 gallon more into the tank. I use don't fill it over the restriction plate. I get about 175 to 200 miles out of the full tank. Usually average about 32mpg. I do usually go to a gas station when I'm at around 275 miles on the Trip B odometer. These California pump nozzles will not let you top it off without pulling back the shut off bezel and slightly lifting the nozzle out of the tank a hair.

Regarding Rykers I've read that approximately one gallon is left. I just assume 25 miles to be on the safe side. I get 39 mpg with my slow county road driving. (35mph avg)

My 14 RT ( 6.9 gal. ) auto shuts off, and then I pump another 1.5 gals. in..... I know my average MPG's and I use my odometer as my Gas guage. ... this is a lot more accurate than the instrument reading on the dash ..... Mike

Gotcha, one gallon. Thanks that was what I was looking for.

Putting it out there for anyone who might not know, just remember that you need to try & leave about half of that or better remaining gas in there to act as lubricant & coolant for the injection system & fuel pump. :lecturef_smilie:

Run it to empty & it's very likely to do SOME damage, every time you do, even if it is initially only microscopic. Do it once & you might be lucky enough to get away with there being little impact on your fuel system &/or engine; do it too often (& your guess is probably just as good as mine as to how often that might be! ) and it WILL cause permanent & irrepairable damage to the fuel system, usually presenting initially as degraded performance &/or worse fuel economy, but eventually potentially resulting in a LOT worse damage, possibly even engine destruction! nojoke

On the Ryker, when the pump clicks off automatically..........don't add more more fuel. It will just run out the overflow onto the ground.

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize I was in the Ryker subforum. I don't have a Ryker. :roflblack:
I've found that if I do that, I'm left two bars short on the fuel level indicator when I get back on to go. The first time this happened, I was like :gaah: Now, I'll raise the nozzle after it first clicks off, to carefully add a bit more just until I can see the fuel level myself.

Yes! So far I’ve added that extra squeeze two times out of many fuel stops., apparently out of intermittent habit with other vehicles. The only destinations of that “additional” fuel were the lower inside right fender and the pavement. But never again - I’ll move on now to the future mistakes that await me.
