There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Fuel Leak

After installing my wife's new XM Radio today on her RS I could smell raw gas when the bike was running after further investigation I found a problem after removing right side panel I noticed fuel leaking from the fuel filter. It appears to be split behind the bracket. Wonder what caused this to happen?

It is usually the clamps, but some have split the filter and some have had the hoses fail. It is uncommon for any failure, but very dangerous if it happens. In any case the proper approach is to replace the filter, which should come with new hoses and clamps. Glad you came upon it before a disaster developed.

Since it's an 09, going replace the filter and all hoses and clamps.

Being an '09 it could just be dried hoses over time developing a crack. Doesn't take much for fuel under pressure to drip out. Glad you caught it!

Should probably have been replaced before this, anyway. Take a peek at your maintenance schedule.

Bike only has 8600 miles, fuel filter was split at the seam. New filter and hoses replaced with new clamps. Wife very happy now.

Glad to hear that everything went back together better than new...
And that the Wife is HAPPY!! :2thumbs:
It makes for a great day; doesn't it? :D

That is premature. The maintenance schedule calls for replacing it every five years or 19,000 miles. I recommend inspecting it and the hose integrity and tightness at least every other oil change, though.

:agree: The fuel lines take on a lot of heat on all the Spyders and makes the fuel lines dry out and crack. When visual inspecting the fuel lines they must be done when the fuel lines are under pressure. That's IMHO.

Sounds like you just had a bad filter. It can happen on any make/model/vehicle but is not all that common.
Glad you got it swapped out with no incident. Motor on!
