Fuel Leak

Desert Spyder

New member
This morning prior to going to church I did a walk around the bike and started the engine while standing along the RH side. I noticed a steady drip hitting the driveway and I believe I could see a drip while looking through the air exhaust porthole. I touched the liquid on the driveway and discovered it was gas. After lunch I took the RH upper tupper off and started the engine and there was no leak. I even tried to provoke it by moving the fuel filter. I'll try again in a few minutes but was wondering if anybody had any experience or good ideas why it was leaking and why its not now?

Any chance it may just have been condensation dripping out the 90 joint in the exhaust? I have seen mine drip out through that joint till the engine warmed up.

Hmm, I don't know. It smelled like fuel when I touched it and sniffed it. I can't drive around with the tupper off to keep an eye on it. I tried running the engine 6 times and no fuel leak. Can the evap can have anything to do with this?

Check your fuel filter...my clamps leaked only on start ups (alot!) It didn't leak when it was warmed up and running, only on cold start ups They replaced my fuel filter and replaced the clamps with the screw tightened ones instead of the pliers clamped ones. I now check them and tighten them up if needed and I haven't had the leaking since.

Definitely strange that it would only happen once. Is there a constant fuel smell?

Are you sure it wasn't just condensate, dripping from the canister vent extension?

Butch's was more like gas was being shot out on the right side only (you could see the drip/spray marks on the body) and then only on cold starts in the morning or after sitting at work all day and starting up to go home. Never when you would start it and stop it often in a row.

Good ideas friends. No smell of fuel whatsoever afterwards. After I took the skin off I did see a stain on the side of the evap can but no way of knowing if it was the source of the earlier drip or not. At this point it could be evaporation. I'll know for sure in 2 hrs when I light her up, pun intended, for work.

Having same problem with gas leak

I was getting ready to go to church on bike and same thing happen to me. However I had the problem previously and took to the dealer and was told it was taken care of. However it has happen twice since the fix. I spoke with dealer and BRP will up date once I get a definite answer on was is causing it. The evac canister hose and clamps have been replaced according to dealer so I am waiting to see what they have to say this time. will upload video to see if your problem is the same as mine.

Has your evap hose been extended to the front of the bike near the radiator per 'Update #2' ??

If not--- you need to get it done asap.

Yes.

Everytime I start the engine now I watch for the drip. Its happened only about 4 times (all on the first start of the day) and lasts long enough to produce about a 3"D stain on the ground. No fuel smell in the air. Its right below the evap can however.
