• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Fuel injection....

Fuel injection mods....

.... OK, I've been thinking <that's dangerous> about fuel modifiers such as the Power Commander and Techlusion.

I'm not too unsure that the Techlusion (sold under several different brand names) won't work on our FI... might not be a plug and play but then...

Techlusion actually specs one out for the Aprila Mille but that's probably just for the installed wiring harness plug.

There are typically four variable pots ... one to set an idle RPM cross-over and three others to adjust idle, mid-range and full throttle ranges....similar to a carb: low speed jet, mid-range needles and main jet.

The only thing these contraptions do is monitor the RPM (tap the tachometer input) and vary the duration of the fuel injection pulses. They only lengthen the pulse, not shorten it... so they can only enrich, or leave the stock setting alone (a zero setting).

You'd probably need a switched, fused 2V power source for the box, and a tach input, then splice into the FI feeds. As that splice is on the "output" side of the puter, there would be no interference with the engine processor itself.... no signals going back in. Its mapped FI pulse remains as commanded... only after the "magic box" intercepts that signal is the duration changed.

Someone tell me why this may not be as simple as it seems?

RotaxGod - you can add to this!

p.s. The Power Commander is more complex as it contains software tables mapping dozens of rpm ranges of how much to add or delete (a percentage) from the stock pulses. I'm not sure that I want to be a pioneer on that one. Any takers?

My thinking is the stock controller seems to do a pretty good jop on it's own. Unless you get the Spyder on the dyno and see where your air/fuel is to start with you really have no idea if you're doing any good or not.

I've used these uints on the VTX and the M109R and you would be surprised how many places even on a built bike that you need to take fuel out. As you said you can't do that with these. :sour:

Under the "For what its worth" category....My son has a fuel commander yada yada installed onto his SV650 Suzuki - This may or may not apply...but his is a plug and play unit - and it plugs into the ecm harness from the o2 sensor, and also has plugs that go in between the ecm and the fuel injectors. Concept here is that the ecm is being told what it want to see, and the controller is amplifying the fuel inject pulse width to allow more fuel to flow when the commander thinks it should be ie acceleration, slowing down using the engine yada yada yada. Now, the ideal situation is to also fool the ecm into thinking all is well, and at the same time alter the fuel amounts as needed. I am no fi genius, and all this is above my head, just passing along some info that may be completely useless or not. my 2 cents - I watch and listen to learn. I am looking for a performance pipe that retain stock noise level ( don't need to compete with the stereo) but know that a fuel injection system enhancer is needed almost all the time to compensate and assist the pipe into giving more performance.

Everyone I know that owns a fuel commander...knows someone with a dyno. Even if you download a map, without a dyno...you don't know what it's doing on your machine.

I agree with that on a Power Commander III. However, the Techlusion box can be a drive and tweak thing.... had one on a VTX.

In all instances, you're right... the perfect "tune" comes from a dyno job.

What about that new box Two Bros have...not sure how programmable it is.

Interesting that you mention that. I just got an email reply from Techlusion... they pointed me to Two Brothers as they may be working on a modified box... which is supplied by Techlusion.

If they have one, it will be the four-pot box that I mentioned above. Drive and tune.

Update: It's in the works... not available yet.... according to Two Brothers. Yipppepeeeeeee!

Not available or just not available for the spyder?...I have seen them on display at cycle gear?

There is one word for why these systems may not yet be made for the Spyder.

CAN-BUS

This system has it's fingers into almost every sensor or control signal for this machine both outgoing and incoming to it. From the fuel and ignition to fuel system controls to the VSS, Abs and even the light bulbs!

These types of "signal modifiers" I think you will find will cause many problems in this more advanced CAN-BUS type of vehicle management system.

Without someway to re-flash the main computer as is done with cars that have this type of system I do not think a "signal modifier" system will work here.
