• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

fuel economy

I ride like I golf... GRIP IT AND RIP IT!! :D
:2thumbs:
Oh! I think that a small sipper is a "sippet"...
(I sell insurance to pay for my Spyder, so I'm just too aware of how much a lousy driving record can cost you when it's time to buy... the fuel economy is just a by-product...)

For optimal MPG the windshield needs to be DOWN, speed below 70 with cruise control on during highway ops. My early experience with the RT revealed about 25 mpg with shield up (sometimes), cruise off, driving 80 MPH (sometimes) and going from a higher elevation to a lower. Coming home shield was down, cruise at 65 and I averaged 35. Wow.

But then I realized if I could afford the RT, I shouldn't complain about the fuel mileage, because its twice as good as my truck...but then the truck is paid off.

I guess that I'm the odd man out here... I usually get around 33mpg per tank-up.
BUT...
I ride like the careful olphart that I am...
I stick to the speed limit...
I short-shift the tranny to let the torque pull me up to speed...

In short; I'm not generating much adrenaline in my shorts when I've got the bars in my grasp...
Thats just not right....Have some fun and goose it every once in a while....Lifes too short....

Some are saying "no, not another gas mileage thread". This was a question started by someone new to our group--lets be helpful. We shouldnt expect someone to do a search before entering a legitimate question.

:agree:
I'm so easily amused that riding down a quiet country road on a warm sunny day with my Missus screeching in my ear that we're lost is almost too much for me... :roflblack:
I save my adrenaline for tax audits and late-night calls from our kid!

Here is a mathematical reply for you. I have had my Spyder since March 2008. I don't know my exact miles right now but for the sake of example, lets say I have 40,000 miles on it. If I am getting 30 mpg than I have used 1333 gallons of fuel. If I only get 27 mpg than I have used 1481 gallons of fuel. That is a difference of 148 gallons over the lifetime of my spyder. If you use an average price of $3.00 a gallon that is $444 over the full time I have owned my spyder or $148 per year that I have owned my spyder. That works out to $12 a month if your ride year round. For $12 a month, I am not going to fret over that extra 3 mpg that I may or may not get. I am going to go out an enjoy my ride.

Fuel economy was one of the things I mentioned to the ladies who called for the BRP survey last night. I average around 27 lately. My silverado gets 22 on the highway, not bad for the big 8. My wifes Impala SS gets around the same at highway speed with cruise. However, Scotty has it right. You can't expect good milage from a barn door. :roflblack:
