• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Does anyone know any tricks to getting decent mileage out of the Siper Touring models??? I get anywhere between low 20's to high 20's, is the best I can get, after my 6000 mile service!

The Spyder likes gas. Most people are reporting high 20's to low 30's on a regular basis. I check mine almost every tank and seem to average about 31. Best ever was 34. Model, Weight, # people, Accesories added, gear being hauled, how you drive--all factors that will have an effect on your overall mileage.

:welcome:
You're not going to get much better than high 20's. Some of us are getting low 30's but there's no real trick to it. :dontknow:

I guess that I'm the odd man out here... I usually get around 33mpg per tank-up.
BUT...
I ride like the careful olphart that I am...
I stick to the speed limit...
I short-shift the tranny to let the torque pull me up to speed...

In short; I'm not generating much adrenaline in my shorts when I've got the bars in my grasp...

Well !! The best trick of all to this mpg problem is to stay living where you are. Over the other side of the pond our petrol is currently 1.40 per liter. When you do the maths on that and convert it to gallons and convert the currency, you will realise that I am driving at perhaps 12 mpg in comparison to your prices.
Enjoy it while you have it. :spyder2:

Yeah, and from what I have seen outta the big oil companies, we are not going to have it for long if they can help it! Gas is at $3.89/gallon for premium in the S.F. Bay Area now. Thieves... :sour:

I agree with Lamont that there is no trick to it. You get what you get! There are some things you can do like Bob was saying, but that just aint my style. I ride like I golf... GRIP IT AND RIP IT!! :D

Sorry, the Spyder has the frontal area of a barn door, and the aerodynamics of a bumblebee. Three tracks on the road does not help, either. Nothing this dirty (aerodynamically) will ever win an economy run. Your fuel economy depends mostly on the type of terrain in your area, the altitude, your riding style, and the formulation of your local fuel. Those with a high ethanol content locally, will get worse mileage. My RTS averaged 25-26 mpg over the first 6,000 miles, while Nancy's RS averaged 27-28 over the same distance. Your Spyder sounds about average.

Here's my 2 cents

I fare worse than most. As ppl have said, no real secret here. 1 thing not really mentioned is your Adjustable Wind Screen. The lower the better when it comes to Avg. Mpg. I always ryde with mine at 1/2, & that gets rid of me be'n a bobble-head & gives me the most comfortable ryde. You gotta do what works best for you.

I check my Avg. Mpg. at EVERY fill-up and only Avg. 22-28 Mpg. Here's the pics from my fill-up today. I avg'd 25.7 this tank. Mostly highway, using cruise at 70 for the most part, just me &/or me & Teddy

:agree:with most everyone about averaging mid to high 20's. Click on my FUELLY banner to see what I've averaged over the past few tanks. To hit over 30mpg, one must either be lucky or have a very favorable tailwind!! :D

I have been averaging about 29 to 31 MPG. If I put on the stock muffler, I can get as high as 33 or 34 MPG.

Correct again, Scotty! Among these factors mentioned, fuel is one key part of the equation here. Most are using up to 10 per cent ethanol by volume now, which will effectively lower your fuel economy by as much as 4mpg. I did a search and in CA there are THREE reported stations that use ethanol-free gas, all in the Northern CA area.

I guess I have even more motivation to lose some tonage now!! :roflblack:

It's really not the big oil companies ...it big government...and...turmoil in the oil countries....

oh...I get about 31 to 34 mpg...I thought that was bad...guess not...

:welcome: I avg 29 to 35 it is how you drive when I was checking it. Gas milage or price of gas will not stop me from riding. I'll adjust to my living style to do it.:gaah:
