• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

After reading about the Spyders going up in flames and my wife has a GS 08 SE5. The canister is coming out. Was thinking on the vent line, like my Valkyrie has is a tee installed into the vent line. This helps in case the one vent line gets clogged up. Adding a fuel filter is nice and also a screen. But I think the tee would be the extra protection on the vent.

I have check valves on both of my vent lines to keep the flow going only out.
Good ieal. Might look into that once I get back home. Her's still has the short vent tube. Carring it to the dealer this morning for warranty work on ball joint. Wanted to fix this before carrying it over there. Would be my luck and it would catch fire. Thanks for the ideal.

Three Hoses Into Canister

I've had the BRP upgrade to the canister -- the one where a vent hose is threaded to the fan area -- and I have, on at least two occasions, bolted the purge valve hose (and I've always removed the bolt and gone back to the original configuration). I still have a tiny hesitation at 4200 - 4500 rpm in 4th gear. Before I take the long trek next month and a bit troubled by the recent photos of a burning Spyder, I'm determined to perform the canisterectomy once and for all.

The problem is that the handy photos of the removal of the canister do not mention -- or, at least, I haven't seen this mentioned -- that there are three hoses into the canister: (1) the one with the solenoid and, on the other side of the canister, (2) the one that vents to the fan. (3) There is a third between them that appears to be the vent hose from the gas tank.

I am unclear about what to do with the vent hose from the gas tank. Do I connect it to the one that vents to the fan placing an inline filter in that line as the pictures show? This makes sense to me but I'd rather know for sure before I begin to cut things.

A brief and precise response would help. Thanks.

Plug the line from the solenoid. Run the gas tank vent to the back of the bike. Remove or abandon the canister. After disconnecting everything from the canister, the 3rd line becomes irrelevant.
 
Or, since you already have the vent line extended to the front, you can hook that straight to the fuel tank vent line with a barrel connector (a check valve like Mr Orange was suggesting might help as well.) Make sure the material can handle fuel.

I used a good sized bolt to plug the line coming off the purge valve. Make sure you do not disconnect the purge valve or you'll throw codes.
