• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Frutrated and Embarrassed

I must say I am very impressed with your ride report, 26K and still going strong... You are a very talented individual and have my respect. You could give Can Am a run for their money if you wanted to make the investment.

Thanks for sharing and being a part of this forum.

I was invited to test drive the first release for several reasons. Since that first ride and the intrigue that later set in I set out to do my own mainly for cost and creative reasons.
Now that I have well over 60k actual riding on all surfaces including snow I feel confident riding a "naked" trike is really no different or less safe than riding a standard street bike. Fact is it is by logic safer.
Are the controls saving you or are you allowing them to do so? I am still impressed when I see a spyder buzz by as I am a real believer in diversity. And let's face it the RT's are as far removed from the HD template as one can get. But at the same time I would rather have the controls in my hands and make my own decisions. How many people drive into ditches and lakes because the GPS told them to turn? More than you think.

I guess the links in my sig don't show up or something - www.stealth11.com is the first conversion, I just gave it a fresh paint job and change several things like adding hard bags, new headlight and mirrors but it's still a blast to ride.

www.valk3.com - My tour model which has replaced my GL1800 for the most part just because it's more fun and safer considering the roads I tend to ride on.

Very impressed with the results. And more impressed with the fact that you did it without tens of millions of $'s R&D.
I ryde 130K miles on the RS, and only once close to flip-it. Why they designed the gas tank and the battery (heaviest parts after the engine) so high of the ground? G force physics....

It's probably about the only "packaging" choices that they had for the bikes without making them a lot larger so as to drop the components into lower positions...
"Compromise is often the destruction of a good design..." :gaah:

New to the very frustrating spyder world

One thing I don't understand is why this bike needs a set up and all the crazy things I need to do to start it up. Why does it have to tell me to read the safety manual every time. I am a whole right leg amputee and I used to ride super bikes, I just changed from a CBR929RR over to the spyder. With that bike I just turned the key and hit the start button with this it is just to much and I never in my life have I ever needed a dealer setup out side of adding gas. I know I just started to ride the spider but man the pushing of the safety thing is just to much, they need to start thinking of this as a real motorcycle not a hover round, the owners manual has about 30 pages on the bike and about 80 pages on safety. And yes I loved spending 1200 dollars on a after market hand brake which should be on the bike already. I will give it time but it is a very frustrating thing.

Tommy do you have an RT or RS? the RS starts up pretty quickly compared to the RT which seems to take forever. The reason I believe is that the computers are booting up. If you turn the key on then put your gloves on and mount the Spyder it should be finished booting up and you won't have to wait for it. I know it is frustrating but riding a Spyder is worth it to me.

I agree with Bob on this one. Dealers, and just some of them, have been the root cause of some of our issues. Maybe its time for a dealer training program for the Spyders?

Actually there is a dealer technician certification and training program. The problem is that the dealers are not sending the techs to them, just turning them loose on us untrained!

Not allergic to Wings, just inferior to them.

Dave,

What is your point in trolling every thread? I think you've received enough attention and everyone's blessings to move on with your beloved GW and ride into the sunset. I think by now it's ingrained in our minds that the GW is a better product. You've made your point, now move on. And for crying out load. BE HAPPY....

I purchased my RT last August, and now, 9000 miles later, all is good

the only 'problem' I had was at Spyderfest where I had the 'Check Engine' lights come on and after slowly going back to PitBull Motorcports and getting a BRP rep to look at my bike, after taking it backk, hooking it up to the computer, etc, etc, etc, all he could say was "I think it might be the o2 sensor....

so, as others have said, I would sit on whatever dealer you are working with and just make sure they find the problem

dont let them treat you like a child, and if they do, find another dealer

Dave... what machine do you think is better?

Oh yeah... a GW. I almost forgot your dozen posts in recent days stating that. :banghead:

Just don't know how that slipped my mind...:roflblack:

Have a good day Dave... Hope you find your happiness somewhere...

Bummer..!!

Get yourself a spyder group...:roflblack: I'll tell you this, I worked on wings from 1976 to 1997 those bikes were not born perfect... I have mentioned before, this site is like a Dr's office we seem to only deal with the sick. And we deal well we have good people with great solutions. Relax ryde with confidence if you go negative and looking or waiting for problems you will find or more likely cause them..jmo...:ohyea:

The Goldwing is a great bike, no doubt. Perfect? No. Did a search on service bulletins, found a good number. Bob listed a lot of problems over the years. Its still a great bike even though it has had problems as is the Spyder. It seems most of Dave's issue with the Spyder is personal preferences and this makes it a lemon in his mind.

I agree.
The 1500 Gold Wing was the only bike I knew of that people recomended carrying a spare alternator.
Iam not sure how bikes are shipped nowdays, but I would guess, some set up is required for all of them. I would not like a dealer who "assumed" the bike was fine without checking it.

it has been noted in various threads that there are indeed dealers out there that do not exactly check the bike over after taking it out of the crate and putting it together

'putting it together' is the key phrase

I myself found some issues on my bike when it was delivered (I wont go in to specifics) but leave it to be said that they obviously knew how to use a wrench, but didnt know how to CHECK THE BIKE OVER afterwards
