Fronts Shocks Setting

I have read old threads and postings regarding shock settings, but still have a question. I have a 2010 RTAC and am 5'11'' and 200 lbs. I've noticed a lot of sway in tight turns; should I set the shocks at 4 or 5? Appreciate any help.

at 200 lbs the recommended front shock adjustment CAM position should be set at level 4 and the recommended rear shock adjustment 3-5....

hope this helps....dan

Barbary is right about the recommended front shock settings. They are in your Owners Guide. These are not hard fast rules, however. Setting the preload higher (or lower) will do no harm. Find what works for you. At 6' 0" and 180 pounds, I liked a setting of 5 up front. Note that the 2010 RTS has a bit more body roll than some people prefer. The 2011 shocks were recalibrated as a result, and some 2010 owners have gone to aftermarket shocks. A lot depends on riding technique and how hard you corner. The Spyder's strong performance and stability make it easy to try to corner harder than a touring machine would normally dictate.

I'm 5'9 & about 170, had them set at factory setting (3) for about 6 months, just switched them last month to setting 5 & I like it much better. I usually ryde by myself, & often times with a 10lb passenger (Teddy) & often a trailer or camper. Your own personal situations/Ryding style will dictate much of what works best for you. Hope my personal insight helps you with your situation :2thumbs:

when I had original 2010 shocks on my RT they were set on 5 to keep the ride firm.
Recently I replaced them with new 2011 RT shocks, and started them on 3.

So far I havent tightened them up, they are much firmer than the 2010 RT shocks.
I may go to 4 but am sure it wont be necessary to go to 5.

After riding several hundred miles with the shocks on 3, I finally decided to move them up a notch today. They were fine on 3 for most riding but when I put my 200 lb son-in-law on the back I decided I needed more help!

The 2011 shocks are so much better than the 2010s and with the firmer setting should be all I need. I know the shocks like Elkas and Works are even more impressive, but for the money I like the 2011s!

@cjackg: What's a set of the 2011s run? Install them yourself?

I go 220-250# depending on proximity to fitness testing. I feel squishy on the 5 setting of my stock 2010 RTS. Would love to firm things up up front.

Thanks for any info.

The 2011s will definitely make a difference. See your dealer, they can either rebuild yours with the 2011 shocks or replace the entire assembly. I got the whole assembly and installed it myself.

Either way the cost will be a third, or better, of the cost of aftermarket shocks!

If you are pushing it and ryding curvy, twisty roads (with 2010 shocks), you sure want to be on 5 !

Front Shocks setting and Evoluzione Sway Bar

I have a 2010 RT-S with the stock front shocks set at 4. I would like to reduce the body roll in turns a little more and wondered what might work best. I just purchased an Evoluzione Sway Bar. Would you suggest that I leave the shocks at 4 when I install the sway bar or set the shocks at 5 with the sway bar. I realize that it is a matter of personal preference and riding style, but wanted to hear others' viewpoints. I am not a very fast or aggressive rider, just don't like the feeling of almost being thrown off the bike on some turns.

Thanks.

Install the Swaybar, test for a while, then play with the shocks. My comments above were all with the Evol swaybar already in use for a while.
