There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Front Tires

Put a Toyo car tire on back. Works fine. However 165/65-14 car tires don't have an appropriate speed rating. Only come with a T-rating. Can get a 175/60-14 (H-rating). Has anyone tried this size? Do they have appropriate clearance?

I haven't tried, but the new tire is about 4/10ths of an inch wider and 1/10 shorter. It's gotta be close. I'm not sure if the nanny will be able to pick up on the different circumference or not (new tire is 1/2" shorter circumference). 899/revs per mile vs 906/revs per mile.

Seeing you can do a burnout up to 30mph I would say you would be fine.

I wonder if the slightly wider tire would effect handling (better/worse). It'd probably look better with a slightly wider tire for sure.

What is the brand for the 175/60R14? I haven't been able to find one. It would be 5mm wider on each side, but only the inside is relevant because that's where the fender struts are. My Spyder could accommodate the extra 5mm. It would be 2.25mm shorter - more clearance under the fender. This should be a good fit???

I have been looking at 175/65R14, but there are some problems with this size. The extra 5mm width on the inside is not a problem, but the height could be a problem. The tire would be 6.5mm taller, that is it would take up more room between the top of the fire and the underside of the fender. There would be another 6.5mm on the bottom of the tire, but this is not relevant. There isn't a lot of room under the fender because of the boxes installed there. I am not sure about the appropriateness of this tire. I wish I knew someone who has tried it.

I have a auto tire on the rear (B.F. Goodrich gForce Sport) and it is working out very well. I would like to put auto tires on the front so I would not have to get my tires from a Spyder dealer (only place OEM tires are sold). Being told where I must buy my tires offends my sense of independence. I understand that BRP wants all the profit.

175/60-14 is a Toyo http://www.toyo.com.au/PCRPDFs/TPG.pdf and the dimensions to a 165/65-14 are very close. However, not sure if this Toyo is still available.

Not sure of costs in US$, but the rear cost me AU$185 but I had to take rim in. The Kenda was $350 to take rim in or $400 fitted. Fronts are similar markup. Hence my interest in going non-Kenda. Also, 40km to BRP dealer and 1km to Toyo dealer.

This Bridgestone tire is speed rated at "S". We need a speed rating of "H". It is not a good idea to go below the speed rating of the original tires.

Then I guess that won't work... probably best going with the stock tires for the front. Probably not going to find a small enough tire with a high enough rating.

Sure it can. Most people don't go that fast, but the Spyder is definitely capable of that speed. It's better to have a little too much then just barely enough or not enough. Kinda like insurance. It's better to have and not need than to need and not have. :doorag:

If you go with a 185/60 14, you'll be fine. The diameter is very close to the oe tire, so the computer shouldn't see a difference. Additionally, if you look online, there are many performance tires with proper speed ratings in this size. Look at this as an option, as I've read many other previous threads stating that this width still works with the fenders.;)

The 185mm tire will be 10mm wider on each side. The outside doesn't matter, but the inside has the fender struts. Will the 185mm tire have enough clearance with the struts? Do we need to be concerned about distortion of the tires when cornering? Do you know of anyone who actually used a 185mm tire on a Spyder?

Bigger tires = more friction...this applies for dry pavement...you will drop your mileage a smidgeon. There should be plenty of tires that match the size of the OEM fronts and rears...

It can exceed that pretty easily. It just takes a little turn of the throttle. :D

Mine stops at 113mph. Beleive me i have tried. My first weekend with the bike up on 84 in Pennsylvania and i get challenged by a 40 something in a Porshe GT3 on quite mountain road. He just wanted to see what :spyder2: would do as did I. So it was on.

Either he was pussy-footing it or i was really spanking that porsche all the way up to 113 then the little spyder just wouldn't go anymore. I'm good with that, don't need to go any faster, but in my case the previous poster had a point on the speed rating.

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to everyone.... I had ankle surgery last Wednesday and haven't been up to doing a whole lot. My riding season is definitely over.

I haven't personally run the 185/60 14 tires, but I read this thread a while ago: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8440&highlight=wide+tires

I know there are more people out there that have run them, so if someone with personal experience could weigh in, they could probably answer any questions more thoroughly. I plan on going to this size when I have to change the fronts.

Might have been you going uphill?

I've hit 128 mph a few times now. If you're running a big shield that can make all the difference in the world. Put a short one on - and lean down crotch-rocket style and you should be able to hit 125+

:2thumbs:

Thanks for posting that. The fastest I have been on mine is 110 and that was during the test ride. I really didn't want to go out and test it to see about that last 3 mph, but was willing to for the sake of science and fair reporting. :D
