Front tires for my 2014 RT Limited

For our RT's and style of riding we're getting 30,000 plus. Just put on our 5th Kumho Ecsta this morning on my RT with 14,950 out of the OEM Kenda (smooth in the center). I changed out the wifes OEM at 12,500 and she now has 38,500 and still looking and riding great with Kumhos front and rear (changed the OEM fronts at 23,500). Time for an oil change on hers again, but should be good on tires and brakes til next year.

Also curious, what size Kumho are you running on the front of your RT (and BTW, mine is a 2014 RTLimited with Kenda 165/55R15 on front).

Ecsta AST on rear... Solus KH16 in 155/60R15 fronts

First time with the Kumho Solus on front... dont know how long they'll go, but they are wearing even at 15,000 miles and wife likes the smooth ride and handling. She is running about 26 psi on the rear, and 19 on the fronts. Current bikes, 15 RT & RT-S SE6's.

Kumho offers their Solus model, in a 155/60-15 sizing. :thumbup:

Still playing with pressures, but seems to make less difference with the Kumhos than the lighter carcass Kendas.

Didn't try Goodyear

I didn't try Goodyear, but Firestone told me they didn't have the equipment for that tire (165/60R-15 Continental ContiProContact).
So I went down the street to TiresPlus, no problem for $45.00. I ordered the tires from TireRack, and they always have a list of approved dealers to mount them, and I think the prices are listed.

I had 15,000+ miles on the Kendas with 5/32 tread remaining, and the difference in ride and handling is awesome. My Kendas were awful, and I suspect any of the tires listed on SL would deliver an amazing transformation. Wish I had made the change 10,000 miles ago.

I've gotten almost 21,000 miles on my original front tires. They are absolutely ready to be changed! Has anyone used a Goodyear dealership to replace your front tires? If so, what tire did you use?

Second question: is the lazer alignment just for the rear tire (nothing to do with the front)?

No Problems

I have read plenty of post on here where people have made comments about having problems ordering tires from Discount Tire. Not sure why, I had no trouble, but maybe they thought it was for a car since I ordered 2.

Same experience - ordered the rear tire and took it to the dealership (about 1/8 mile away) who installed it.

Front tires were ordered (based upon a recommendation on this FORUM - 2012 Can-Am Spyder RT-S SM5) and i took the rims in with my old tires and they mounted and balanced the new.

I've gotten almost 21,000 miles on my original front tires. They are absolutely ready to be changed! Has anyone used a Goodyear dealership to replace your front tires? If so, what tire did you use?

Second question: is the lazer alignment just for the rear tire (nothing to do with the front)?

They now have 38,000 miles and still have 10,000 miles left on them.
They are wearing very well. Since they are not directional, I rotate them every 5000
miles.

That's a great point on rotation, I hadn't thought about that. The ContiPros are not directional and I'll also rotate them.

.........Bill, trust me on this ....Rotating is a waste of time and money ...UNLESS YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THE TIRE OFF THE WHEEL TO DO IT...... If you have a wear problem ....FIX IT with a Lazer alignment ........Because every time you dis-mount a tire you might damage it and you have to re-balance it .....and it might not be as good as it was ................best of luck.....Mike :thumbup:

Conti not Directional

Thanks, Mike, these Conti tires are not directional, but you caused me to re-think rotating them. I noticed my Spyder started pulling to the left after they were mounted. Who knows whether it might happen if I rotated them?

I am very diligent on rotating my tires on my Subaru Forester and also badger my daughter to do so on hers. Supposedly the 4-wheel drive eventually has problems if the circumference on any tire is much different then others.

I do have another laser alignment scheduled on Oct 11 and expect these tires to last many many miles with no rotation.

Currently 17 front and 24 psi on rear Kumho on wifes bike...

Still playing with pressures, but seems to make less difference with the Kumhos than the lighter carcass Kendas.

I'm running 25 psi at 70F on my rear Kumho Ecsta AST; just ordered 2 Solus 155/60 KH16s for the front and when they get here will probably run them at 18 psi.

Thanks, Mike, these Conti tires are not directional, but you caused me to re-think rotating them. I noticed my Spyder started pulling to the left after they were mounted. Who knows whether it might happen if I rotated them?

......Bill, when I gave my advice, it was for the Spyder ..... Cars, especially with 4 wheel drive are completely different, but then this isn't the Subaru Forum ...... right :lecturef_smilie:

Bill, I am also running the 165/60-R15 Continental Contiprocontact tires on my spyder on the front. I love them, this is the first riding season with them. Deanna

Thanks for all the info on tires, my wife's 2014 ST Limited has about 5300 miles and the rear Kendra is at the wear bars. Who does the laser alignments? Is there a list of shops that do it? We live in New Hampshire.
