Front Foot Rests

BLACK WIDOW

New member
I am going to add some type of front foot rest on my Spyder--I need something to give me a little more space to get the kinks out. I have been looking at the brackets sold by "NO NEON MAGIC" and was wondering if anyone has used them. A picture may be worth a thousand words But a few words from experience is invaluable. Would appreciate your response. :f_spider:.

Welcome to SpyderLovers BLACK WIDOW. I had those brackets and I didn't really like the feeling of my legs spread out that wide. It was okay for a change of leg position but I only ended up riding that way probably 5% of the time. I was just too uncomfortable with my perceived feeling that I was starting to do "the splits" while riding. However, I gave those brackets to my wife and, with a set of the peg extensions, they work perfectly for her. She loves the ride and can be seen using those highway pegs more often than not.

I have the ones from Direct Line and was getting the same symptoms as BJT
also I don't like the fact that you can bend your frame (direct line brackets) if you step on one with full body weight or someone else does witch actualy happened to a member here at Americade last year :yikes:welcome:congrats::ani29:

Hey, I apprciate the responses---What are you using now? What do you think is the best way to go?

Highway Peg Brackets

At first I bought the brackets from Magic Neon - way too flimsy as they bolt on to the sheet metal on the Spyder. I have a 30" inseam and my legs were fully extended and very wide apart. Didn't like it! The one to get is from KewlMetal - these bolt on the motor mounts and are solid as a rock. You CAN stand on them without any harm. Leg position for me is just right - nice natural feeling and not spread apart. For full disclosure the Magic Neon sells an adjustable bracket with 2", 3", or 4" extenders which can be "moved around" for a better fit, but the brackets will still flex.

:2thumbs::agree: I have the Kewlmetal one and love them. Very sturdy.

I designed the ones that No Magic sells now and I have yet to bend the sheetmetal frame in over a years worth of usage. :dontknow:
If you read the directions that I have on this site and what comes with the brackets there is a disclaimer about where it's bolted and putting all your weight on them.

That's it, you're done with the install of the brackets. Now I had one guy ask if you can put all your weight on them, the answer is no. Not because the brackets are weak but the frame itself will not carry the full weight of a person. They will work fine for what they are meant to be and that's a foot rest. :doorag:
The brackets that No Magic sells will never bend but yes if you stand on them the sheetmetal that they bolt to will bend. Easy solution, don't stand on them and use them for what they were meant to be, a footrest.

Yes they are wider than the Kewlmetal but they do have brackets now to make them adjustable and your feet are not in the heat zone as they are with the KM brackets. Buy what works for you but for me the KM bracket won't let me stretch out as far as I need to and I don't want my foot any closer to the radiator vent than it is now with the stock pegs.

Yes I use these all the time on most any length of ride. I love them. I was able to get over the extra wide by about two inches simply by not using the clevis with my floorboard. The board it bolted directly to the extension on the bracket. I have travelled extensively on may short and about 4 long trips with these and would not go with out them. You can see how they are attached in the my mods forum. Here is a photo of the board next to the extension

Do you have a web site I could go to to check out? I couldn't find the product using random search. I appreciate all of your opinions and that is exactly what I wanted. :f_spider:

Hmmm.... I think I resemble that remark. I walked away from my Spyder for just a few minutes only to look back and see some goon jumping up and down on one forward peg.

Some people have no respect for other's property. No permanante damage but still not recommended.

I've got the NMM forward pegs. I don't use them much day to day on short runs but they are a life saver on longer trips. I'm not that tall (which Lamont is always reminding me of) but the pegs are in a great spot. Having my legs spread is actually good as it gives releaf from having my legs together as they are on the stock peg location.

Overall, easy install, good construction, great placement. It's a winner for me.

I have the NMN brackets and I found some pegs that have a bolt on the end - so no need for the clevis - these pegs also have an allen screw so you can adjust them up on an angle - makes them more comfortable because your feet meet them a a more natural angle. Also having them on the angle will prob. keep the Goons from standing on them..... I use them very often - and have practiced quick moves to the brake peddle  I really want to get a hand brake in the future to make use of the forward pegs safer.

As you can see from those suggestions that popped up after you asked this, the best highway pegs are a matter of personal opinion. I myself use the plastic cowl pieces on the Spyder that cover the radiator and the oil tank. Keeps my legs a little closer to the centerline of the Spyder and away from the heat zone. The catch is you have to have long legs (36" inseam here) to comfortably use that position or your feet won't stay up there. I'm thinking of adding some type of pad or heel cup to make it more comfortable. Mostly, I find the stock riding position plenty comfortable and I can adjust my feet just a few inches (from heel to toe on the the peg) for all but the longest of trips (over 3 hours).

I'm sorry, but the risk conscious Staff Sergeant is going to come out of me on this one. For those of you with the pegs farther forward and away from the brake pedal: Do you think you lose too much reaction time for an emergency stop with your foot being that far away from the pedal? I know Lamonster has a hand brake to mitigate the risk, but what is everyone else doing? I like having easy access to all my controls all the time!

Love the :spyder:, hated the peg position( bad knees ), installed Lamont's hand brake mod. The foot brake now gets very little use.
