• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

? From a fixing to be

I am fixing to either purchase an 2010 base RT or wait a few weeks and purchase and base 2011 RT. I am currently waying the decission and cost between the two year models. I understand there are some changes and that they can be done on the 2010 to make it like the 2011 and that there are some small issues with the 2010 that would have to be updated. I guess what I am asking is for a list of the issues and mods to make sure I address everything. Currently I have located a 2010 base for $18,000.00 plus TT&L, what is everyones opinion on the price is that a really good deal?

Thanks for your help in making my decission

I vote - save money and purchase the 2010.

BTW, it's nice to see someone else from Lumberton on this forum. I grew up there but left in 2002 after college. My parents still live in the area, though...

8 grand plus, off list price is a pretty good deal. Oops, I was thinking RTS--not base model. Just because Im a CPA does not mean I can count good! Based on 21K for the base, I guess that would be about 3K off---still a good deal IMHO.

List price for a 2011 RT is $21,399. Looks more like a $3400 savings which is still good chunk of change. As long as it has the updated DPS and other recalls done I think I would go for it. Expecially if you live in an area where you still have a month of so of riding time left. There are no 2010 RTS Spyders left at any of the three dealers in a 120 miles radius of my area so I have to wait for the 2011 coming in the Spring. Its going to be a long winter.

See my large crow sandwich retraction in the edit above. You people are good at keeping one honest and accurate.

Thats OK, I was hoping you were right about the 8G,s.
I was going ask you to pick one up for me,and i would have given you
a finders fee.:roflblack:

Did someone say "Goodies"?? Put the savings into the "personalization funds balance" and enjoy the ride! :2thumbs:

Go for the 2010 maybe....

A few things not mentioned:
1) Is it brand new from a dealer? If yes... skip directly to item #3

2) If not... how many miles?...condition?...maintenance records with all service bulletins complied with? Has it been titled & how long ago? SE5 or SM5??

3) BUY IT!!! Unless you hate the color or transmission $3000 worth.

There's another consideration - if BOTH are new (from a dealer), you may be able to get a (smaller) discount for an advanced purchase of a 2011, and the loss from depreciation should be considered. A $21K 2010 is probably worth $16 to $18 on the used market, but a $21K 2011 is probably worth $19 to $20.

The discount is only viable, if you intend to keep the bike for more than 3 years... Otherwise, find a good used bike - mine had 1.6K on the clock and was in new condition, for a LOT better price.

Also, spring for the BEST warranty on a used bike, and you have all the insurance over the ownership period you need.

Just my $0.02

thanks for the thoughts

yes it is a new unit was taken out of the box and built to do the DPS thing and is sitting on the sales floor. It has like 10 or 20 miles on it from testing it our after building it. I guess what I am wondering about is if that is a good enough price to not wait the month for the 2011 and mostly besides the DPS what else do I need to make sure the dealer has done to it.

Grommets??spelling

It make seem like a small issue but make sure all the grommets holding the body panels in place have been replaced. i.e. that all panels fit tight.. It won't seem like a small thing if you lose one piece of bike skin and have to replace it/ the cost has shocked more than one rider when a piece fell off.

Purchasing wizdom

If you want to buy a new but expired model Spyder that is now last year's model you have to deal with cash for a better price. That green stuff really works miracles. That's the way I buy everything. And if I don't have it I don't buy it. Something to think about.

Nice thing for someone with deep pockets to say but if we could all do that many corporations would go broke.
