I know this pales in comparison to Spyderfest rides, I'm going to post it anyway. Yesterday, wife and I did 220 miles. Rode down to the coast (for you Yankees, that's the shore). Stopped for lunch at a nice little place. Spent a few hours at one of the state aquariums. They have a very large tank with a 3/4 size replica of a German U Boat, U352 that was sunk off the NC coast during WWII by the Coast Guard. On the way home ran in to some rain, Frogg Toggs worked just fine. Even though we had some rain, it was still a good day.
Today I got up at 0 dark thirty, met a friend and his GF and headed out for the first annual DAV ride to raise money for transportation. This was held at one of the best Harley dealers in the area (yeah, that's what I said, Harley dealer), Ray Price Harley Davidson in Raleigh, NC. Mr. Price is a staunch supporter of Veterans and Veteran causes. Had around 50 bikes total. Organizations represented were Combat Veterans of America, Vietnam Veterans Association, DAV, and some others I can't recall. There were several disabled VV vets there and one Vet from WWII. I and many others made a point to shake his hand and thank him. There are so few left, with more going on to their reward every day. The ride was LEO escorted and was about 40 miles total. We stopped at noon at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Raleigh for the monthly reading of 40 names of those from NC that are still unaccounted for from that war. Today was somewhat special because there were some some South Vietnamese Army Vets in attendance as well. I guess the pollen got to me during the reading, my eyes started to water. Oh well, it was a beautiful day for a ride.
