Found this in my drive belt

I was pulling my Tupper ware and found this on my drive belt. Sure looks like it's coming out of the belt. Not something that penetrated from outside. Has any one had something like this happen? I have a 2016 RTS with around 2000 miles.

Are you saying there is not an entry point from the sprocket side of the belt?

Please position your belt so you can twist it ( you might have to put a wrench on it for leverage ) and look on the inside ......take a pic before you remove whatever it is ..... then take pics of the object ......... slowly rotate your sprocket and examine between ALL the teeth to see if their is any Serious damage to the Sprocket ..... to me the object looks like it could be glass :dontknow: ....... Bluek night you are on to something, it does seem to be a through and through. I will inspect the sprockets and removed the object tomorrow, looks like I'll looking at replacement of the belt, thanks.

Thanks for the pic , however I can't tell what it is yet ???? ........ Let us know after you get it out ...... and the belt might not be NEED to be re-placed immediately ........ I would definitely get one, but maybe not put it on yet...... A damaged CHAIN is a much worse situation than what you have ........ jmho ..... Mike :thumbup:

Agree

Mark the damage with a silver sharpie pen. Keep using it. If the damage grows, replace it. If not, use the one you have. I used one like that 40,000 miles!

Tar and rock road. I had a small stone stuck on my rear sprocket with tar. If i had not found it, I suspect I may have seen the same thing. Check your ryde after a fresh tar and rock road.

Here is would I would do and I saw it done before.
Pry out the rock or whatever.
Go get some black rubber sealer.
Put it in the hole and press down on the rubber as best you can making sure the sealer does it's job to basically glue the rubber back.
On the inside clean up any excess rubber sealer.

The idea is it might keep the damage from expanding with use.
I met a guy that did this and he is still using the belt and it's been at least 2 years now.

I would buy a extra belt just in case.

Ive had that on my hd...it was a rock pushed threw...i ask around back then ...they said it really no problem...as long its not on the edge...that was true...rode it 30k more miles till i traded in

Yep, you picked up a rock between the pulley and the belt. I agree with Joe, keep a very close eye on it. Keep the photo you posted and compare it side by side between the photo and the real thing to verify that it's not growing.

know if this is going to bother you as you ride. There is no reason to replace the belt except for your peace of mind. I would not worry about the stone either. At some point, may have noticed a moderately loud noise and the bike shook as if you hit a rock with the rear tire. THAT was the moment the rear sprocket forced the stone through the belt. It's happened to me twice now thanks to my local town guys "cindering" my personal driveway every winter when it snows. They usually get back to sweep up the cinders about 2 months after I start riding my Spyder after it's winter hibernation. Those little stones are also responsible for taking out my adjustable air bag and compressor system. My town has not cost me upwards of $1000 but, I keep sending them hard earned (tax) money 'cause it'd be hard to ride my Spyder from jail!

Rock in belt.

I noticed the same thing in my belt at 9,000 miles. The dealer told me to replace it but I thought I'd just keep watching it to see if it got worse. It didn't and I now have over 100,000 and still going!
