• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Im new to the forums and to owning a Spyder. Hoping someone could tell me what the best floor board option would be that would not lower the clearance of the roadster. Also which one is the best built and will last the longest. Thanks any help is apreciated.
Sorry not a great speller

Welcome to our nightmare! :2thumbs:
Do you have an RS/GS, or an RT? There are a bunch of different types and brands available; depending on which Spyder you've got.
I'm on an RT and love my ISCIs, but Seal also makes a great 'board...

Hi haligan,

Please check out my website. Seal FloorBoards sit at the same level as your current rider foot pegs. They offer the most foot movement available and are made of 3/16th powder coated steel. I build them for both the RT and RS Spyders.

As mentioned by all above, I will only add to it. I am only mentioning those that support our site...

If possible meet up with other Spyder owners and see what they have and get a feel for as many of the options possible.

It seems that no Floorboard or set of Peg Mounts are the same. Not only in how they mount, but the position each ends up in is different.

Seal (Above post) makes great floorboards for those wanting the same height of the driver pegs.

ESI sells a nice set for resting feet on but NOT to step on that allow for stretching the legs out.

ISCI Manufactures and sells just about the highest quality products for the Spyders on the planet. Many options as well...

SFB manufatures (And sold by a supporting vendor here called TricPlate) for the RS models.

KewelMetal outsources the manufacturing, but theirs are 100% their design.

The good news is there is one for you out there, and nearly every part the past few years that are specifically designed for the RS/GS and the RT are top quality. Not cheap chromed crap that has saturated the Harley Market. There you need to be in the know of who offers the quality you want

Good luck and.... :congrats::welcome:

thank you. I just picked up a rss in orange and black. I agree with the comment about Harley parts, I have owned 4 Harleys and 2 Buells. I also was a Harley mech at a dealership for a few years, all the parts made by Harley are Chinese crap.
thank you for the advice

:agree: ... and John is a VERY commited member of our little group of "lunatics".

...Or does that mean that he should BE committed??

I would like to thank all who have responded. Now I need to figure exactly how much I want my legs bent or straightened. :2thumbs:

I'm just sitting back waiting for John to announce the Sealfloorboards for the RT SM5 . I have to admit if those Vertica units were priced cheaper :yikes: I'd jump all over them in a heart beat :(.

They're coming! They're coming! Designing them is one of my goals at SpyderFest..

Not to threadjack, but......

I was looking at the sealfloorboards yestereday. Is it really true that the brake pedal is completely removed and all that is left is the plate that sticks through the floor board that activates the brake by using either your heel or toe??

I'm not looking for floorboards. I like the pegs. I'm just asking for information is all. The brake solution seems weird to me. But that's probably just me. I suppose one could learn to brake with your heel. Still, it seems weird to me.

I also don't understand how the shifter continues to work. Press down to shift down. But how do you shift up without taking your foot off the floor boards? I don't understand. And if I don't, maybe there are other people who don't understand either. Maybe someone could explain, please??

Good questions.

I moved the brake 2" forward so that the rider's feet would be in a more natural position when braking. I prefer to ride with my leg more outstretched and it is totally natural to back my foot up to brake using my heel or just swivel on the ball of my foot to brake with my heel. If my feet happen to be further back, I just break with my toe. It really is a natural movement.

When shifting up on the SM5 my foot is under the the shift lever and I just lift my heel thereby moving the shift lever up. For those who wear heavy boots, they tell me they just flick it with the side of their boot. I have to take their word that either way works well as I don't ride a SM5. The foot does not need to leave the floorboard to shift up.

Ride in comfort,

John
