Flat spot at 5300-5800 rpm on 998 motor

Hi,

Just picked up a 2014 RSS SE5 less than a week ago, and have put a few hundred miles on it so far. I am still getting used to the ride, and know I have a bit to learn. When riding on the highway, I have noticed that at around 5300-5800 rpm at around 70mph in 5th, there seems to be a flat spot where the engine just isn't making a lot of power. It seems to bog a little and runs pretty rough. Above 6k, it seems to wake up and goes back to normal.

Is this normal for this motor? It doesn't seem to happen in the lower gears, so I am wondering if I just need to keep it in 4th and not try 5th until I am will above 75mph?

Thanks!

Depends..!

this may clear up as you get more miles on her. It is not normal and I usually don't shift to 5th until I am close or above 70. If your still all stock I would give it some time if you have mods to exhaust and air flow you may need to add a fuel controler. I have modified both and she runs great without one but it depends on the products used...

Run it until the first service and bring it up to the dealer tech. It may just need an update to the ECM. The 998 engine is in it's power band above 5,000 rpm.

If your only feeling it at highway 5th gear cruising, that part throttle cruise area is where the fueling starts to go lean for fuel economy. Not uncommon to feel a little flat there and/or a very slight surging. Most people don't notice it.

Thanks guys, I am all stock for now, and will probably not make any modifications for a little while. I always try to have a good feel for the motor before slapping a bunch of stuff on it, but so far, I know I would like just a few more ponies. :)
