First Wet Roadtest of the new rear tire

Monday I headed out just after 5am. Temp on the Spyder showed 53 with light rain. Drove the first 262 miles in on and off rain with the average temp at 46. Tire is the Michelin Premier A/S in 205/60R15 running 25psi.


My impression is it is the best wet road tire I have tried so far! It handled as if the road was dry and I did not need to slow down for roundabouts, or curves. Of course time and miles will tell the true story, but so far with a little over 600 miles on it I am very pleased with it

My last tire was the AltiMAX RT43 in 215/60R15 running 28 psi changed out at 17,000 miles
Tire before that was the Kumho in 225//55R15 running 28psi changed out at 11,000 miles
First tire was the stock one changed out at 6,400 miles

That is the closest size they have which equals 25/32" narrower. Hard to say that less then 1 inch would make that much difference :dontknow:, but Michelin is calming that this tire is the best wet road tire made - I will try and verify that claim through out the year.

These ratings were brought up in other topics. Since the ratings I believe are submitted by customers in uncontrolled testing, I find it difficult to truly be comparing apples to apples.

If those ratings were the ratings gathered by the test drivers on the test track using the same came and conditions, disregard the above statement.

"In wet conditions we found a greater separation across the group, with the Premier A/S and PureContact providing very similar and high levels of overall traction and stability. Somewhat behind the lead pair was the Turanza Serenity Plus which felt stable, but with lower overall traction. Back another step was the Cinturato P7 All Season Plus, feeling somewhat slippery in comparison to the other tires in the test."

My dealer still will not install non-OEM tires--even though he told people he would think about it.

i am not a fan of mixing dry road summer fronts with a/s rear. i also don't like stretch tires, 205x50 is a stretch on a 15x7

Thanks for the info. I just mounted the General Altimax RT 43 a couple of weeks ago. I'll see how it goes, and I may end up with the Michelin on the next pit stop. :thumbup:

...........It certainly has some very good numbers......and right now it's off the RADAR as a Spyder tire ( purchasing -wise ).....I probably shouldn't have pointed that out :banghead::banghead::banghead:.........Why people get into discussions with salespeople about purchasing a tire they aren't supposed to put on a Motorcycle is beyond my comprehension :yikes:.......If they go on-line --- DICOUNT TIRES DIRECT ( for example ) -- they don't have to talk with anyone.....just order the type and size tire and that's it, pay and wait for delivery. That's how I've ordered dozens of tires AND NEVER TALKED TO ANYONE !!!!.....................JMHO......Mike :bbq:

I'd be interested in hearing you thoughts on the Altimax vs Kumho vs Michelin using the stock tire as a baseline.
