• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I went to my local motorsports shop looking at a vstar. Rode a spyder and instantly changed my mind. I got a realy good deal on a 2013 circut yellow St. I spent half the day going 5 mph with my 5 year old in my lap riding up and down my little neighborhood but im excited, its lots of fun. But I have noticed a few threads on hear that have me worried boiling gas heating issues. Any tips for a first time owner.

First Time

I also own a '13 ST-S in yellow. Just talk to the dealer and make sure the recall has been done on the master cylinder cap and evap canister, and the ECM has been updated. I have had no severe heat issues with my ST-S. I think you are going to love it!!

Not ALL 2013 Spyder have the issues, and there have been some fixes from BRP . . . as said above, ask your dealer to verify that all service bulletins and recalls are complete and you'll be fine!

:welcome: and:congrats: If you have any issues don't fix it your self but take it to the dealer and let them deal with it.

Just have fun and ride safe, God Bless.

:welcome: to the site. :congrats: on the new ryde.

The 2013's have some well known issues. A competent dealer should have done all the proper updates prior to delivery for you. You may or may not experience heat issues. Chances are, you are not going to have issues.

Upside: You got a good deal, you like the machine, and its under full warranty. Enjoy your new ryde. Any problems, ask your friends on Spyderlovers. Let the dealer do any work necessary.

Just a suggestion....

As others have said...yes a few 13's had some issues...but it appears from what I read here that BRP has addressed thru service bulletins. But if you want another layer of "security"..consider buying the BEST 3 year extended warranty. I have found the best price from either Bert's Mega Mall (Bryce handles at their business) or Pitbull Powersports (Vanessa handls there). Any dealer can sell...but check cost if you like the best deal...

Miles of smiles coming to you Welcome..Welcome :thumbup::yes:

Same here w a 2013 ST-S.

Although I have found the boiling gas a couple times, the heat hasn't really made it to me yet.

I still have to get the latest recall done.

And I have taken some precautions as to adding some heat wrap in places in case I ended up w/ heat issues when it gets hot.

Hopefully the latest update coming will take care of any heat issues I may have found when it gets hot this summer.

Congrats!

I purchased a STS SE5 last august and have had no real issues. In all honesty I live in Michigan so heat usually isn't a problem but the bike seems ok regarding heat and I look forward to seeing it every day, notice I said "seeing it"cause also in Michigan riding it is kind of difficult in the winter. I have snuck it a couple of time though and look forward to winter loosening its grip NOW!! So, I can take it out daily!
This is a great site with a lot of knowledgable and help people. I'd bet on you having a happy experience.

We bought the same bike for my wife. I posted a while back about the heat issue, the left side by the riders knee gets quite warm. But then I remembered that it is a motorcycle, you sit over the engine. In the 60's we learned that you don't touch anything but the seat and the handlebars or you will get burned. I guess I got spoiled over the years and thought that a thin piece of plastic bodywork would make all the heat disappear. It is still a motorcycle, the rider is only inches from the engine. In AZ, there is enough other heat to worry about so the bike heat is not an issue. Enjoy it. Wife loves it. (BTW, she really loves the Ultimate low rider seat, she has better seat time endurance now than I do on my FJR.)
