First Spyder!!!

I have been looking into getting a :spyder: for a few months now and finally went to look at them today. The local dealership had a 2009 on sale for 14900. I wasn't looking at getting the red when I headed out this morning but liked it a lot more in person. Especially since it had aftermarket rims and exhaust... That was until I went upstairs and saw a 2011 rs-s se5 in orange. I had looked at this online and loved the color but didn't want to spend that kind of money. The sticker was 19200 but was curious what the price would be on the sm5. When I was told 16500 I was hooked... Needless to say I will be ordering it on Monday and hopefully be riding in a few weeks.

Not sure if you negotiated with the dealer or not... But a $2700 difference is higher than retail. Retail has that @ a $1500 add-on expense.

If you like the idea of the SE5 I would confront them with this knowledge and see what wiggle room you can get out of them. The SE5 is a blast to have :2thumbs:

No not at all. You are spot on... Just saying that the price difference for the SE5 vs SM5 is not $2700 it is $1500 per the BRP Site. And my hope was to help you keep the discount they gave you on the SM5 ($16500 basically a $1200 price drop) on the SE5 so you could get the SE5 for $18000 or less...

Every dealer is different I completely get that. But I paid just under $20k out the door for our 2011 RSS SE5 and we have a 8.9% sales tax. hyea::2thumbs:

Go with the SM5...you will have more feel with it...just like a manual car vs. an auto...they both do great but manuals are more fun (unless you sit in traffic all day)...

The SE is not an automatic transmission, it is simply a paddle shifter with an electronic clutch instead of a manual one. You have to upshift it, there is no automatic upshifting. The only automatic shifting it will do is downshifting at low RPMs in order to keep you from bogging down the engine. However, you are also able to downshift whenever you feel like it.
Therefore comparisons between the SE and an automatic transmission in a car are totally invalid.

I'm not trying to bash you or anything, just want to make sure new members who are thinking about getting a Spyder know the real deal about the SE transmission. When I was first looking at Spyders I told the dealer I wanted a manual one because I wanted full control of my shift points. He told me I should test ryde the SE to give it a chance before I made up my mind. I am truly glad that I did, as it is an upgrade that was well worth every penny of the $1500 cost. :thumbup:

My wife has the SE5 and I have the SM5. I prefer the SM5. I'm a control freak and I can shift much faster with the SM than the SE. My wife loves the SE much better. Less for her to think about. BTW, I LOVE the new orange. I'm kinda po'ed because I would have got that instead of the red.:welcome:
