• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First Service

My ride with my new SE5 to the nearest dealer was a 700Km round trip, the morning was cold 2 C the ride home was better 20 C. If you dont like the weather in Canada just wait 5 minutes it'll change. The service didn't go very well, I let the dealer know about the noisy brakes well in advance, he didn't have any to replace it so now I have to take it back when he get's some in stock. When I saw my :spyder2: after the service there was oil dripping from it :yikes:, I asked the service manager about it he said he would get it washed up, it was from the oil change. For future reference to anyone DO NOT POWER WASH THE FUSE PANEL. I had no gears  they had to replace 2 fuses before I could get going. How much should a first service cost? they charged me $C337.

Why would a dealer use a power washer and wash the fuse panel when the oil was, or should have been, in the area of where the oil dripped when changing the oil? Sometimes one wonders where "mechanics" come from. Glad you got fixed right in the end. Was 109F yesterday when we rode in the California Borrego Desert yesterday.

Wow...what a mess! Have they ever serviced one before?? Geeez...I paid a little under $300.00 usd for my first service...however, they didn't fry the electrical system and there was no dripping oil...imagine what they did that you can't see!...they should've given you a discount, don't you think?

Geez, I got mine done earlier this week and paid about $250, which I thought was about average given what I had read here.

I don't think I'll be power washing my spyder anytime soon.

I hope you got this documented, the owner's manual says not to use a power washer since it forces water into sealed units, like bearings.

A simple oil change and a few inspections should never cost over $100. Even $79.95 sounds a bit much in my book after hearing the VW commercial on the radio.:gaah:

This would be difficult to accomplish. At BRP prices a Spyder will take over $75 worth of synthetic oil, filter, and parts alone. That leaves about fifteen minutes for the labor at average rates. Not much of an inspection. If you are careful, it will take that long to remove and replace the body panels carefully. This isn't a VW or a car, that can just be taken to Uncle Ed's, the drain plug pulled on the hoist, and then fed some Pennzoil.

I think the local cost here is $247 according to my saleslady. I thought it was high, but from speaking to others around the country, seems about right (I still think it is high !).

Oh, and it was 84F yesterday ! :)

My first service here in the Toronto Area was just under $250 (Cdn). I am hoping that it is not a whole lot more for the 6,000km service. Everyone, please keep your fingers crossed :ohyea:
