• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Did my first oil change at 300 miles. There was 1/2 a green pea sized amount of gray looking paste on the magnetic drain plug. I would assume this is break-in material from the engine and clutch. What is usually considered a normal amount?
 
I had maybe slightly less than that as well on mine after my first one. I am not sure its normal but thats what I had
 
That's about what I had too... Checked with the dealer and they told me that it's normal for the first oil change, and there may be a little bit the next time I change the oil.
 
Magnetic drain plug. That is the metal particles it attracted. Common in new engines. Better to be on the magnet or in the filter than to circualte through the engine. Some don't have magnetic drain plugs, and some have separate transmissions or dry clutches, both of which will reduce the potential amount of particles in the oil.

the reason I always change the oil filter(s) at 50 to 100 miles. Yep overkill on my part but I always break in the engine the same way race builders break in their engines.

Using this procedure I have never had a premature engine failure on the 15 new motorcycle engines I've broken-in. Not to say it won't happen but "knock on wood good luck so far".

I do the heat and cooling cycles, I also run about 7000 on the shifts after 100 miles. Most people don't realize it but the engines are run at the factory to redline then checked for compression and leaking.
 
Many of us...

are unaware that temp is a good thing on gas engines. A lot of thermostats are from 180 to 195 because that is where most gas engines run cleaner and run the best. I was concerned about 5 bars on the meter until NancysToy:thumbup: and Lamont :thumbup:pointed out what the temperature was for each of the bars. Now it doesn't bother me a bit to see 5 bars on the scale.
