• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First impressions...

:welcome: to an incurable Spyder disease! They only way to cope with this disease is to get out and ryde. Hope to see/meet you at the owners event in Maggie Valley. Keep up the posts, it's fun hear your impressions of this great Spyder world you have joined.

It is just the beginning! Wait till you get some miles on it and it just gets better every mile!

I just turned 25k on mine and decided to upgrade to a new 2011 organge/black....cant wait!

:congrats: good to hear you're enjoying your new ryde Mickey. Probably everyone that reads the posts from you and Faran gets the same tingles up the spine that I do.... someone called it Spydermania.
Vaughn and I have had our RT and RS for just over one year and it still happens every time we go for a ryde. . . . . nothing like it!

Ryde safe and prepare for miles of smiles! :ohyea:

Thanks, guys! I'll keep it up and look forward to meeting you guys and sharing your stories as well.

Finally got out on my own for awhile today and met up with friends in Hollywood, then followed them up to the Hollywood hills. Went to an overlook, saw the Hollywood sign, had some pizza and olive oil gelato at one of Mario batali's restaurant...perfect sunny day, fun ride, friends and great food. I could get used to this!

The only thing I'm still getting used to is finding my comfort zone. Since it's a little more sporty than the RT I'm sitting forward over my hips. I'm still a little stiff when I hop off, but my body's adapting. Like Lamonster told me, with zero sympathy, "pain is weakness leaving the body".:roflblack:

When I saw the picture of you yesterday....first thought was that you didnt look comfortable on the spyder.

First thing I would recommend is handle bar risers....like kewlmetal's fully adjustable ones.

Then the next thing is highway pegs or floor boards...that one is a tough decision...looking for the right option for my new one as well. I have previously had kewlmetals mount and kuryakin pegs...did good for me for the past 3 years.

The next thing that helped me was getting the corbin seat with backrest...the backrest was the best thing ever for me. I wish there was an option with the BRP seat but the seat pan isnt strong enough to support it yet.

Day 2, big ride today! Three minutes after I started it up we were on the freeway in LA traffic, talk about a trial by fire, haha. Then we hit the pch and up Mulholland where I got my first taste of twisties. It was fantastic. Still a bit of a learning curve until the last hour or so. Speeds that weren't comfortable yet on the way up were second nature a short while later.

I'm glad to hear some of you were still learning after a thousand miles. I'll be putting in close to three thousand this week on the way home, so I hope to be pretty comfortable by the time I get back to Ohio!

All in all, i'm in love and it's going to be a long term relationship!

Heck bro-- I'm still learning after 35,000 miles! :D

in my defense that pic was taken thirty seconds after I sat down, haha. My initial impulse was to sit higher up and lean forward more, but I realized before I put it in gear that wasn't going to work.

I'm gonna check out those tips for the comfort mods, thanks!

I didn't realize I was so heartless :D

You'll do just fine Bro, just enjoy yourself and put down the miles you feel good about at first. I think you're a brave man to take off cross country right out of the gate. :2thumbs:

Great thread -- Congrats Mickey -- enjoy the world of Spydering as we do. Look forward to continued updates from you. :2thumbs:

...and now the modding starts...
A philosophical question: How do you take a machine that's already "perfect"... and improve on it?

Lamont, it was tough love, I can appreciate that! :2thumbs: (and thanks for the profile pic!)

Thanks again, everyone. I may not be posting much for a few days, since I'll be riding and collecting stuff to share later, but I'll see you all soon!:D

Godspeed!

:congrats: .... you will get use to the Ryde but I'm not sure you can ever get beyond the 'rock star". My wife said after a nice ryde this weekend "this thing draws to much DANG attention" .... everybody wants to be a Spyder Lover :2thumbs:

I think by the time you hit Ohio you will have your list of mods all made out and prioritized!:2thumbs:

Have a safe ryde! Sounds like a blast:doorag:
