• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First Impressions: 600-mile check, update, and CHAD

I got my Spyder back last night after having the update and 600-mile check done. We got to talking about the performance issues and the service manager was quick to point out that he's had no returns because he follows BRP's instructions exactly. I paid $254.27 for the 600-mile check, with the breakdown as follows:

14.99 Oil Filter
49.95 5 Quarts Oil
165.00 Service Check
8.25 Supplies
16.08 Sales Tax

$65 for an oil change seems steep, so I'm going to check into changing my own oil.

Getting on the road, I noticed right away that the play in the handlebars is gone. Now, when I shimmy the handlebars, I get a bit of body roll.

When I got home, I installed my CHAD. For the prce I paid, I was very disappointed with the quality of the mounting bracket. Industries 7 either needs to make the holes bigger or get a new template, because nothing lines up. I tried some subtle bending, but that didn't work, so I broke out the drill and made the holes oval-shaped in the up-down alignment.

Also, the bolts supplied are about useless for the windshield. As others suggested, I use the BRP bolts on the windshield and the supplied bolts on the mounting bracket. And it would have been nice if the supplied bolts were Torx and not hex so you can use the same tool.

Once I got it set up, I went for a ride. I started with the CHAD all the way down, but the wind hit me right in the face, so I quickly pulled into the local Walmart to made adjustments. I stopped perpendicular in a row of empty spots, I set the height to half-way, then used the lines from the parking spots to measure 30-feet out (each spot is roughly 10 feet wide). I tiled the winshield until the 30-foot mark was visible at the top of the windshield. At this setting, the wind just barely hits the top of the helmet and I can sit up to catch a bit of air if I need to.

I really rode it like I stole it last night, putting on almost 100 miles from 2-lane country roads to Interstate. I didn't have any surging, hesitation, or backfires. Except for the CHAD, my bike is totally stock. The only thing that seemed different was that 5th gear doesn't seem to have the oomph that it had. I'm not sure if that's because of the update or because the windshield is pushing a larger volume of air.

Lots more riding to come. If there are any changes, I post an update.

GIJOE - You can certainly do the oil change yourself, the how-to forum has all the details. Per the owner's manual, you should also change the filter o-ring (one on SM5, two on SE5) and plug bolt crush washers (two on either model)...I don't see those on your receipt. Was this a BRP-trained shop?

Yes, the service manager mentioned he's Can-Am certified. Maybe those parts are part of the $8.25 for supplies?
