First impression of the new ride

Picked up the new ride today, a 2011 blue rt and trailer. As I rode the gold wing to the dealer to trade it in I felt like I was be trying an old friend. I hated to lose an old friend but all things must pass.
After picking up the rt, I was able to run a tank of fuel through it. The mileage came out to 34 MPG. I thought that was pretty good consider in what I have been reading about the mileage.
It does not have the low end power of the wing but when it gets into it's power cuve it wants to go.
It seems to be affected by wind more than the wing and trucks really gave me an uncomfortable feeling.
For a first impression I was pretty satisfied. I did notice at first I was trying to hold it like a bike, it wanted to wander. Once I loosend my grip it was a much better ride.
Will have to run two tanks or more tomorrow to give it my final assessment.
Over all I was very impressed.

Bob,

Congrats on the new ride!!! I suspect that you'll become more and more pleased with every mile you ride. You've got the right idea about how to manage and steer control. Evaluate the wind affect with your windscreen full down and see if you notice a difference in wind handling. You'll see a fuel economy affect, that's for sure.

Welcome and congrats. Your initial thoughts are valid. Agreed- loosen the grip and guide the bike. It's almost a Jedi thing .

We just picked up Carols new RS SE5 about a month ago and this is the first time she has ever riden on her own. I told her the first thing in riding a :spyder: is to learn to relax and ride your own ride. Now we're just over a month in her riding by herself, and her comment was your right. It is a lot of fun and you have to learn to relax. and this is from her I'm loving ever mile and I'm getting better every time I take it out. the twisties were alot of fun in Maggie Valley once I rode them for a few miles and figure it out some what. Can't wait to go again. Now back to what I think is the best fun machine you could ever ride. Just mine and Carols .02 worth have fun riding. JC/CJ
