Mostly non bike stuff- I try to be on the road far from home at least 3 months a year, mostly in my camper but I have done most of the country on my RT as well.
Wherever you stop, every single teeny tiny town seems to have a Chinese restaurant and they all have good Lo Mein. I just ask for "House Special Lo Mein" and have them deliver it. usually about $8 and it feeds two.
Drink lots of water. I have a cup holder for it on the dash of the RT. Also use it as an excuse to stop, often. We would pick just about any lonely roadside rest we could find and hang under a tree drinking water until we gurgled.
Folks will like your Can-Am, folks that don't like motorcycles even.
If, like me, you happen to be a banjo player you can remove the neck and fit it in the frunk, put two beers inside the pot.
The speed you ride is partly dependent on the local limits and LEOs, but also on mood. I have ridden along happily and had school buses pass me. Other times no one can catch me. I did get caught once- 100 in a 70.
I took extra gas. It took up a lot of room and I never needed it. I think I'll skip it next time. I took extra tools to do stuff I knew how to and a Leatherman saved me once.
If you are relying on a GPS take a map book anyway. Michelin makes a really nice one in a smaller format.
Have a great time!
