• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First DIY Oil Change

All I can say is :yikes:. It takes Lamont 10 minutes and it took me 4 hours...but I learned a lot and next time I'm gonna do it in half the time. By the time I have 40K miles on my :spyder2: I should be able to do it in 30 minutes...maybe. Even had the new panel that was installed by my dealer today during the 5K (actually 4600 mile) service. Dealer tech even drilled the hole that allows access to one of the tranny filter bolts. Suffice to say I removed bolts and plugs I shouldn't have and didn't remove a plug I should have..but, what the hay, like I say I learned a lot.

Just turned 5K on my :spyder2: and am loving it . Gotta add a post on the 5k thread. Bye....

I seriously is no big deal! I really think every owner should give it a try. They will learn a lot and save even more!

3 oil changes

i have done 3 oil changes on my rt......the first one took me forever...lol....but the dealership had stripped the drain plug and so it took both my son and i to get it out....thank goodness we did not have to drill it out....so now it has the magnetic socket ones back in and that makes removal a lot better....i also had heard that putting on the new lower black panel that it does not save you a whole lot of time...is this true?....do you still have to take the side off or just the part by the oild tank and then the black panel????

Bitsy,
If that's a picture of your bike in the Avatar, I'd sure like to see some fullsize shots of it! :2thumbs:

Dealership says I have to bring it in for a oil change to get the new inproved HCM filter/cover. My 2012 RT SE5 is ready for it's 3000 mi oil change which I want to do myself. Anyone know a customer serivce # for BRP ? I have not recevied the voucher and service dept. said they can not give the part to me.

Only had to remove the piece of Tupperware normally removed to check the oil and the new black panel.

Are you talking about the new tranny filter and cover? You should be able to purchase both from your dealer for about $10.00. If your talking about the new black lower side panel and if your dealer won't give it to you without the BRP voucher I suppose a call to BRP is in order. I believe there is info on the Spyderlovers.com home page on the left hand side that may be helpful in contacting BRP Customer Service. If you dealer did not register your Spyder with BRP after they sold it to you then BRP probably doesn't know you are a Spyder owner.

Yes it is tranny filter and cover, the RT is registered with BRP. I have sent an email to BRP will wait to see if they care.

I purchased filters from my dealer on Monday. Only wanted the oil and tranny filter but dealer said the tranny filter comes with the larger cap as a "kit". The "kit" cost me about $10. So now I have a spare tranny cap. Best of luck to you...hope you get the goodies you need to do your own oil change. My first DIY oil change was an "experience" and I'm glad I decided to do it...learned a lot that will help me on the 10,000 oil change.

BTW Bajaron (site sponsor) sells filters for the :spyder2: but he does not yet have the new tranny filter. Hopefully Bajaron will be offering the new tranny filter soon.
