This was the first day that we were all together and got to go for a ride. I guess they are calling us the "Spyder 5" now instead of the RT5 seeing there has been two RS's added to the group.
The passion and excitement from Faran and Mickey was contagious. You could tell that they were a little overwhelmed at first and I'm sure they were asking themselves what had they done. It's one thing to apply for something like this but to actually win it and to realize the commitment that they both have made is more than likely going to be a challenge at first. One thing for sure is they are both up for the challenge.
This was the first look at their new Spyder before the ride. :doorag:
We all met over at Del Amo Motorsports so they could pick up their rides and go through all the things that a new owner goes through when purchasing a new Spyder. I'm sure about 5 minutes into the orientation their brain just shut off. I forgot how much there was to learn about the Spyder just to start it and go through all the features. If they were like me before I got the Spyder they had already read pretty much everything there was to read about it and know their way around it pretty good before ever seeing one. Still reading about it and putting your hands on one are two different things as you all know.
After they went through the program they took their first rides around the parking lot to get use to the feel of the machine. It's kind of funny because Chaz and I were as nervous as parents watching their kids take their first bike ride in the street. It's a pretty big parking lot but it was full of cars, bikes and trucks and there were moving vehicles going in and out all the time. It was not the ideal situation but they did pretty darn good seeing this was the first time they had ever ridden a Spyder and they had all the pressure of us watching them.
Will you look at that smile on her face
Mickey has the same smile but is still trying to figure out his posture for riding the Spyder. I thought he was getting ready to race. :2thumbs:
After they did their parking lot ride we were able to give them a little advice about not only riding the Spyder but riding the Spyder in the streets of LA. Once again it was not the best situation for a new rider but they both did great. We didn't take a long ride but it was long enough for them to get a good feel for the Spyder. They also got the Rockstar treatment from those around them, I told them to get use to it.

After dropping off the Spyder at the dealer we headed back to the hotel and did some interviews with the media folks and then headed out for a nice dinner. All in all it was a great day and it looks like today will be even better as they have a long ride planned and we'll be visiting places like the Rock Store and such. I'm really looking forward to this and I'm sure Faran and Mickey are too. They really are a great choice for the new ambassadors.
