I came down a day early to beat the snow. I left the house and it was 36 degrees but didn't feel that bad but by the time I hit the mountains I got a little wet from the light rain and stupid me didn't put on my rain gear till after I was wet and cold. Took about 200 miles or so before I dried out and was warm again. The ride down was great and it was good to know this was the start of the riding season for me.
Got to Daytona about 7pm and the first stop was the carwash. My rig was wasted from the first hundred miles and it was driving me nuts all the way there, I hate a dirty bike/Spyder. That day was 600 miles and it felt great, I love my setup and it reminded me how therapeutic a good long ride is. My head needed it for sure. I will say that the trailers going down out numbered the bikes 10 to 1 at least. I've never see so little bikes on the road heading to bike week. I know I talked to a couple of guys that said they were going to ride down but they had 18" of snow on the ground so that wasn't happening. What I don't understand is guys with FL plate trailering from north of Daytona, it's only about 120 miles max. Oh well I was glad I was riding.
The next morning I headed over to see some of my buddies before things kicked off. I stopped by Custom Dynamics and spent some time with Dave. He's got some new stuff coming out for the Spyder that's pretty cool. I got to get a sneak peak.
Then I headed over to V8Choppers to see Stan and I ran into my Bro Don and he just bought a new V8 trike from Stan. The was over the top and I have plans on riding it later today. Very cool trike and really the only trike I would own (the Spyder is not a trike to me).
Headed to the BRP Spyder tent from there and it was already looking like it had good traffic. I guess the day before was a little slow because of the rain but the cool thing was they were the only one doing demo rides. The rig looks great and it was cool to see all the 2013's out on the road.
I had dinner with Fred Rau and we did the usual swapping of stories and had a great prime rib dinner at Port Orange Steak House. Beat prime rib in town if you're hungry. From there we headed back to the hotel and I met up with Harvey (Spyderpops) and swapped some more stories. Heading out right now for breakfast and then heading to the tent. I'll try and take more pictures today, yesterday I was hammered talking to folks. Not likely it will be any better today. :doorag:
