• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Hello,

First let me apologize if I posted my question in the wrong area, the moderators are free to move it if they wish.

I've been a member for almost a year and have been reading the forums and learning a lot.

I have a 2012 RT SE LTD

About a month ago I went on a ride and all was fine. One week later as I left the driveway the check engine light came on flashing orange. I did read how to get engine codes by pressing the MODE and the SET button together with the TURN INDICATOR switch pressed IN you come to the fault code page. However I simply get a blank screen with the normal icons across the top and no codes. I tried it with the engine on as well as off....

What am I doing wrong that I can't get codes?????

Can't tell you how to get the codes; there may not be any. . You might want to check the battery terminas for tighness and if you don't keep it on a battery tender between rides I would stongly suggest that you do so! !!

......:agree:.....Plus, if you put STAR washers on the Battery bolts....they will never ever loosen , unless you do it......Mike

The likely problem is that you turned the key off and when you came back the codes are no longer active and will not display. The code retrieval method only works for active codes.

:agree: When the LED display starts lighting up; you have to try and pull the codes A.S.A.P.
They'll be stored in the computer, and your dealer can always retrieve ALL of the stored codes with BUDS; you can only see what's going on right at the moment that you're punching buttons to pull codes.

Thanks for the feedback

I checked the terminals and they are tight. I do keep it on a tender.

I have the flashing check engine light when I push the buttons, but nothing is displayed.

I did try with engine running at the time, and then when I got nothing, I turned the key off and tried again.

I will have to pay more attention for the moment that the check engine lights up again.

Thanks again for the feedback.....

Are you holding in the "Mode" and "Set" buttons, and THEN pushing in on the turnsignal switch? :dontknow:
If that's the case; you've got no error codes; just something else that needs your attention.

The code finally showed it's ugly self today C1290 VCM Voltage failure VCM voltage is much too high or too low VCM supply voltage glitch

Will dig out the Volt meter and check the voltage.... I know I am due for a new battery this spring.....

Once I check the voltage, I'll know if it's the battery or the supply.

Thanks for all of your help, the code just wouldn't show until today, and I know where to look.

Found the problem

I found the cause of my C1290 code, the battery was fine, the charging voltage was fine but occasionally the voltage would drop and return to normal. I found the culprit to be the 12v USB adapter in the rear cargo trunk that I use to charge my SENA SM10 Bluetooth stereo transmitter.

Who would have ever guessed, it really took me by surprise when I found it. Code is gone, no more check engine light flashing and a great 4 hour ride with no worries. Who knows how long the dealer would have taken to find the cause, or what they would have replaced that was not bad????

Thank you again for all your help.
