There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Filling the tank

After the gas hose auto stops, I found could get another 1.25 gallons in the tank. My question is: is this 6.6 + 1.25 or have I not been getting a full tank in the past? By the way, I still had room beneath the filler neck I just gave up squirtling a few ounces at a time, lol.

Is there any concern about overfilling the tank besides the possiblity of overflow from expansion?

Thanks for any help,

Randy

Gas tank filling

I insert the nozzle all the way in the tank, then when it clicks off I pull it out a little further and fill the tank to the "vent" holes around the filler neck. I can usually add 1 gallon more by doing this.

Yes, that is what I did but it took for ever to get it up there. Is that gallon part of the 6.6 total? My Burman took 4 gals even but if I filled it right up I could get another 1/3 gallon which gave me 18 mile additional range.

Regards,

Randy

Just run it out of gas, push it to the nearest pump, and let us know. Make sure you put some water bottles in the frunk, there is a heatwave going on !!!:clap:

The tank will only hold about 6.2 gallons the .4 is for expansion [head space] I ran mine dry twice the most i got in was 5.9.

I would only top off to the vent neck if you are going to use it up right away. It's not a good idea to leave it parked filled up all the way for the reasons mention above:agree:

Similar experience but most I have ever gotten in was 5.7 gallons after running out of gas (by the way not quite that dumb - the gas gauge registered a quarter of a tank when i ran out -- since replaced) 6.6 gallons is definitely the max size of the tank including expand space. no more

Lots of opinions and a few earlier threads about this.

My personal experience: I fill carefully until I see the gas coming up to the vent holes. When it hits that point, I let it settle back down.

I do this about 3 times and stop. No gas above the vent holes.

I usually end up putting in between 4.5 and 5.5 gallons depending on where the current mileage is. 130-150 for most tanks. I did go 180 once on my RS--but that seemed pretty scarry for me.

I have never let it run dry.

Yes I always fill up when I have a few miles to get home. Even though it settles down to about 1/2" below the vents its always way done by the time I get home.

So,

in essence, we don't have a 6.6 GAL tank for actual gas fill.

Why not just say it is a 5.9 or 6 gal tank to start with?

Probably for the same reason they have 990 stickers on the side, when the engine is a 998 point something.:dontknow:
Aha, Those wild and crazy Canadians:D

All vehicle fuel tanks are labeled this way. The head space is included. The capacity stated is total volume, not usable volume. No different on anything that I know of.

So - My statement of it not being a 6.6 gal GAS tank is accurate. Technically a space of volume for 6.6 gal, but literally and accurately - less.

And the Dyna I traded for the Spyder would (if empty) hold 5.1 gal if filled to the brim. On a tank with a rated capacity of 4.9 gal.
