There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Faults on a new 2011 RT-S

My 11 RTS makes that noise as well. Not sure if it stays on 35 minutes or not but definitely does. The first time I noticed it I had just driven home, was taking off plastic to install my GPS harness and heard the noise. During the course of installing the harness it just stopped. Today, just got home came in the house and about 10 mins later went back out the garage, could hear the noise. Very high pitch whine.

I have not heard it at all. Does it happen right away when you switch off the key, after the display powers down, or even later? Sounds like the dealers will be selling lots of Battery Tenders very soon. nojoke

Mine seems to happen after the display powers down and the lights turn off. The first time I heard it I thought something was running like a pump or something. Then it just stopped. Checked my battery voltage and the battery does not seem to be taking a hit... I honestly do not know what it is.

mine did the same thing since the day i brought it home. (an 11 rts) when i took it to the dealer to have the air suspension fixed i talked directly to the tech about it and even let him listen to it. he called brp and they told him it is normal and can last as long as 40-50 min. mine does it every time i shut it off. the length of time changes though. sometimes it will only "humm" for a few minutes other times a lot longer. hope this helps:thumbup:

Sure would like to know what it is.

Sure would like to know what it is.

the technician didnt get very specific but just said it was one of the computers that can continue "thinking" for up to 50 min. i was just so excited to be able to ride it without getting bucked off since they fixed the air suspension i didnt inquire any further.

i agree with the "rock star" status on the viper red. we tried riding last night and had to completely change our plans because we couldnt get out of the gas station! i cant believe how many people flat out ask how much it cost? i was brought up that it was rude to ask people that. :dontknow:

Thanks to all

Okay. Thank you to all of those who replied. As Scotty gave me some info on Power Relay number 1, it could be something having to do with a pressure relief solenoid or the ECM. Whatever it is continues to "think about" stuff for quite a while. I have a 2010 base model and it doesn't make any kind of whine, but I was concerned because I didn't remember the 2011 RT-S doing this before they had the CB installed (though I also don't think I was paying all that much attentiuon). So, thank you to those who responded. I was afraid that the dealership was just doing the "they all do that.." routine when they didn't really know.

More info on the electronic noise.

Apparently, there were some complaints that on 2010 model RT's that after shut down, fuel (still under pressure) was dribbling down inside the cylinder. How would you know that? And how long would it do that? Anyway, the whine is some kind of pressure stopping device that kills pressure to the injectors. That's why it takes so long to run apparently. I don't know if my own 2010 has a dribble, but the oil doesn't smell. My mileage is about where it's supposed to be. No explosions upon hot re-start. So, I don't know - but wanted to pass along what the factory had told the orginalting dealer (for the parents 2011).

Thanks for that, John. I haven't heard the noise with mine, but there is no hot restart problem like I experience with my 2010. Maybe I just don't hang around long enough after I shut it off?

The noise is the computer keeping the throttlr shutter closed. The issue last year was that hot air was entering the air box after shut down via the throttle body bores. Buy allowing the computer to keep the shutters closed it keeps the temps down in the air box, allowing for easier hot restarts. This was communicated with us at the dealer show in San Diego last month. There will actually be a reflash for 2010 models.

2011 RT-S - Delivered Today - Constant High-Pitch noise when engine off and key out.

Okay, I have a new question. When the Spyder is off, key out, about 15 minutes has gone by, there is a high pitched electronic whine or hum coming out of the Spyder. I do not remember this noise before the CB was connected. I found that if I pull the Main Relay 1 out, the noise goes away (and the relay was really really warm - even after 15 minutes). When I put the relay back in, no noise. Re-start the SPyder, turn it off, the noise is back and doesn't go away. The originating dealer swears that this is a new for 2011 noise and that "they all do that." This is the same dealership that I have discovered reversed the front wheels when they put them on so that the tire direction was facing backwards. Please let me know if your RT-S has this electronic whine.

I just got my 2011 RT-S delivered and I too notice a constant high pitched noise coming from the front of the vehicle when the engine is off and continues evey when the key is pulled out. The Spyder was only driven a few hundred feet into my garage and turned off. I took my first test drive and hoped it would go away after I drove it, but it still making the noise when the engine is off and remove the key.

Everything seems okay. I need to be more careful with the accelerator around sharp curves and low speed, I tend to accidentally gun it when I'm just trying to steer. Scared the hell out of me! :gaah:

Didn't you read post #30?? The one ahead just ahead of yours....:gaah:

Yeah..:agree:I read it right after posting my redundant post and right before reading yours. I got so excited I found someone who had the same issue, I quoted and replied and forgot to read past it! Having an ADD moment!

Hey no problem, lots of great info on here and.....:welcome:

:congrats: and :welcome:. Which color did you get?

Thanks! I went with Timeless Black, I wanted to be less noticeable....it isn't working. :dontknow: They had a red one :spyder2:, but it's too ostentatious for me. It's supposed to be frigid and raining through Monday, but maybe I will get a few chances to practice getting the hang of it despite the inclement weather.

The electronic noise runs for about 35 minutes after turning off the key then it will actually stop (my parents just called me). I think that this is unusual, but personally I have lost confidence in the originating dealership. He (service manager) stated that all of the 2011's are doing it (all throughout the show room). Perhaps this is something sticking.

The dealer is correct. The sound goes on for about 40 minuets. The ECU is keeping the throttle body closed so exhaust fumes cannot leave the engine after a hot shutdown (or any shutdown), This prevents the problem that some have complained of, which is the smell of exhaust fumes in their garage after they shut the engine off. Outdoors you probably would not smell the fumes. I have had the smell in my garage on my GS, but my new RT does not smell. It just whines a little for about 40 minuets.

There is nothing to worry about here. All 2011 RT's do this.

I suppose this could affect the exhaust fumes after shutdown, but that is not the purpose. The purpose is to prevent fuel vapors from saturating the cylinder after shutdown, thus preventing the hot restart problems many of us had. :D

Scotty, you are correct (as usual). I talked to my Spyder Tech and he confirmed your explanation. I ask him if it had anything to do with smell. He said no it did not. However, he was too diplomatic to ask where I got my crazy idea. I guess I will have to stop listening to those space aliens who visit me from time to time.:2thumbs:
